Oil change

I went to the dealership to get my oil changed and they said the next time I have to get it changed is 6000 km or 6 months whichever comes first. Doesn't that seem a bit too long or are honda's different. I don't think they put in synthetic oil either.

I use fully synthetic and I change every 5K but your supposed to change it every 3K unless it gets really dirty and thick.
For regular oil, your supposed to change it every 5K or 3 months, 6 months is insanity wtf were those people thinking.

Depends on how you drive the car. For BMWs and luxury cars, you have to change once every 10,000 km. Honda has much higher rev limits.

Synthetic oil really works, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, I change my oil every 5K with Mobile 1. I rev all the time, within vtec range to red line, I have not lost power or wear out anything yet. So Synthetic works best for high rev engines.

6k km is right! Under normal driving conditions. Meaning NO RACING, NO HIGH REVING.... nothing extreme.

Seeing as how you have a 1999 Si, that does seem long. My EL which has the same motor (D16Y8) is recommended for the usual every 3 months or 5,000 km. On some newer cars this is true, at least for the first few oil changes. My mom's 02 RSX had its first change at 6,000 km and she is only now getting the second one done at 13,000 km. I told her to go sooner, but even the dealer and Acura says that these intervals are correct.

Manual says 6000kms in severe operating conditions, or 12000 under normal conditions. I do every 5K with Mobil 1 synthetic, and since they changed to this bullshit synth formula I have to go find me a new oil. Amsoil, Royal Purple, Motul, Redline are all contenders.
