10w30 is good for high mileage, but a thinner oil like 5w-30 is much better in winter. I would highly recommend using 5w-30 in the winter as it really helps reduce rough engine starts. I am using 5w30 synthetic right now and it was night and day during the winter when compared to 10w30.

Just a general note, pertinent to this discussion, which I think everyone understands anyhow ....
Engine oil viscosity is important and measured only at normal operating temperature, which is about 210 degrees F. (The "30" part of its viscosity.) All oil, when cooler than this, will thicken up. The 5W doesn't thicken up as fast as a 10W does, so at room temperature the 5W will be a little thinner than the 10W. This means, for the owner, that the engine will turn over easier in cold weather, with 5W than it will with 10W oil.
In any oil (syn or dyno), the 5w will turn over easier than 10w. The nature of the oil can also have a significance here. Synthetics (any brand) retain their fluidy at much colder temps than dino oils. Take a look at this oil study, and take note of the "pour points" for different brands of oil (keeping winter in mind). The pour point is the lowest temperature at which the oil will flow. Amsoil 10W30 has a pour point of -58 deg F; whereas Castrol GTX has a pour point of only -29 deg F. Amsoil TSO 0W30 has a pour point of - 65 deg F.

After a weekend of ice fishing in Tamagami this winter, what oil do you want in your car? At 40 or 50 below, lots of cars will have a serious challenge.

i have been using oem oil on both of my cars, one was old and one is new...never had problem in the winter! stick with what your manual says unless you have money to spend on these name brand almost the same/better as oem oils

OEM oil just relabeled from another manu. and of course stick Honda markup price on it. I highly doubt Honda has there own refinery.
For oil I would be only concerned with the grade, operation temps, and the API oil grade.
Just like cam said. -40 to -50 (these temps are more common in places like Winnipeg, etc)
