Oil Additives for Engine
Do any of you guys actually go out and spend like 20 to 50 bucks for these additives (ie Dura Lube, Prolong, etc.) for your engines? And does it reeeeally help?
|
I dont buy them. I have seen a lot of controversy on this subject so I decided to avoid any potential trouble. My oil choice seems to be doing a good job so why mess up a winning formula.
http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html Two thirds of the way down is some interesting info about additives. |
The only additive I use with my oil is Lucas, the stuff really works. Oh and for the winter I use a stabilizer.
|
im assuming that you have a 7thgen because it says on your profile...you wouldn't need any of those additives because our cars are really efficient plus it might make your engine perform less than normal ...just my 2 centavos:D
|
Yeah, it's a 7th Gen. I think it states in the munual as well that you shouldn't put additives in your engine or you'll void the warrenty.

I would avoid additives all together. If you must, they should only be used on older angines with higher miles. Newer engines need time for the rings and bearings to seat properly.
