Oh snap!
Could anyone of you diagnose by a picture if my timing belt is still good?

too hard to tell in that pictures, take the cover off
|
if your mileage is above 100k replace it.
|
ya like weiRtech stated if your over 100k and you know it hasnt already been replace then replace it, better safe then sorry right? it's to hard to tell by that picture but it looks like on the left side of the belt it is starting to wear
|
It's not always the belt that snaps either. If the water pump bearing seize, then the belt will break. It's also wise to replace the water pump along with the t-belt.
|
look on the side of the timing belt cover.
if it was replaced at a place that knows what they are doing they will have written when it was replaced and at what km. check under the hood and on the shock towers aswell for any km markings or stickers with a km marking on it. |
Thats what I thought. Its hard to tell with pics unless I get a really good closeup shot.
But I dont see any markings, etc. This was a swap done like close to a year ago. A D15B VTEC from Japan. Supposedly (50K) from the guy who has it obviously BS because he had to no proof. But the engine did look good. But ya better safe than sorry so I will do it on my next next oil change. How much would I be looking for a timing belt + tensioner + water pump + install? Also I heard someone say make them change a seal or something. Should this be included with every type of water pump/timing belt change? |
that looks pretty worn out, replace it to be safe so you dont cook your head.
|
You cannot tell by looking at the sides or the top.
You need to look at the teeth, which means the belt needs to come off. If you look at the teeth side, you will see cracks in the belt.. |
Okay I think I will change it on my next oil change which is soon.
I was wondering if people can confirm the parts I will need. This for a JDM D15B VTEC. I've done research and came up with this. 1. Waterpump (For D16Z6) 2. Timing Belt (For VX, 103teeth) 3. Tensioner (For D16Z6) 4. Do seals come with the above to replace? 5. Also do I have to re-do timing with a timing gun after install? I was wondering about estimates of price that I need in order to change these 3 things? Also I need an average price of install I should look for. Is anyone up for installing these 3 things for me? Someone who has done this before and knows what they are doing and has all the tools needed? |

You need a VX Timing belt. Gates part number is T223. 3. Tensioner (For D16Z6) Diameter of roller is a litter bigger, but should be safe. 4. Seals should come with the water pump. Nothing else though 5. You should always re-do timing. When removing it, make sure you mark the crank and cam, that way you remove old belt, line up marks and put new belt on. Don't have to TDC engine and all that crap. Parts are probably like $150-200 for everything. |

But it's pretty 50/50. Ive been hearing one say D16Z6 waterpump, and you and others say VX waterpump. Can you confirm this? Do you have the same engine? |
BTW for the Tensioner, would it be okay to use the old spring or wise to purchase a new spring?

I am 100% I put in a VX pump and the DX one honda gave me first was different. Read the thread below.. It's got pics and everything. http://www.d-series.org/forums/showt...ight=d15b+vtec |
