OEM Aftermarket Parts vs. HOEM Honda PArts

I was just wondering what people's thoughts were on OEM aftermarket repalcement parts vs Honda OEM parts. My personal opinion is go with Honda even though =$$. Any opinions?

I have to replace my timing belt /water pump and found a deal on ebay click on the following link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...923988073&rd=1

Is anyone familiar with the OEM afternmarket brands listed?

I'd buy a honda timing belt for sure, but i bought a werner/beckley water pump from autozone b/c it has a lifetime warranty and as a bonus it was cheaper.
But i say Honda OE all the way!

I think you have to look at it on an item by item basis, but generally honda OEM is the way to go, specially with something like a timing belt that is a pain to change (and could destroy your engine if it breaks), definitly OEM........

I second that.........everything that I buy for my cars is aftermarket OEM. On the rare occation that I can't get the parts from a NAPA/Car Quest, I will hold my breath and call the dealership for it and hope that I won't get raped on the price.

it's really not the same thing... well, some things are, some are not.... but why take the chance. I'll use what Honda has approved as a replacement.

go to the dealer and demand trade price.. mechanics get parts at 30-40% lower than list price, so why should you overpay?

Thanks for the opinions. I've made up my mind to go with OEM Honda because of the quality, and the great discounts from Parkway.

Using OEM parts will also look better to a potential buyer when it comes time to sell your car.

When I price out parts with UAP, Carquest, & the dealer. The dealer is about 10% more than the other places.

I only buy oil at Crappy tire.

WTF is this??

Most Hondas will require some repair work in the first or second year. Unfortunately, some parts for these repairs may still only be available through the Honda dealer
that's from the above link...

right away you know the entire page is bull****. my Honda didn't need any work in 6 years that I owned it... only things I've ever done were strictly preventative maintenance at around 48,000 kms like an OEM air filter, spark plugs, fluid changes.

Hey guys

I work in the parts department for Acura In Markham and alot of our customers find that they can get the parts they need at pretty much the same price compared to aft. stuff. If any price difference it is minimal and in alot of cases a bit cheaper depending on the part. for me if a customer comes in with a good atitude i usually give them a discount. this makes our customer happy and they know they are getting quality parts. If you have had bad experiences with parts guys at dealers. let me know i can always do something to help. I can get you Acura and honda stuff.
if your inquiring about parts email me at bkwan@rogers.com

happy to help

some aftermarkets parts are not anywhere near honda oem specifications and quality. For instance i was involved in a small "bending of the fender" if you will, driver fender and hood were replaced(other parts as well). The aftermarket hood was heavier, as the well lines were not identical and the hood fit like poo.
Some stuff you get aftermarket is great, but i think theres just as many crappy parts to go around to.

With the discount members get at parkway. There's just no way I'm going w/ aftermarket parts for most of my parts I need. But of course it also depends because sometimes you DO want to get aftermarket parts for some stuff. Ex. Maybe someone wants slotted rotors and not OEM. One thing I rest assured when I go to parkway is I get the right part and it always FITS!!!! I hate going to CT or other places, pick up the part, do the work, then find out the ****z dont fit properly or even worst, they gave me the freaken wrong part!!!
