noticable difference or just imagination
i know im not the only one to buy there nice civic and remove all the excell sir filter crap inside the front bumper and up to the air filter i seem to notice a big difference removing all that stuff and just having airfilter out in the open does this really make a difference or am i just crazy who else has done this before?

any intake restrictions/airboxes/resonators will decreace airflow...minor gains in horsepower cuz its breathing better... increaced responsiveness may be mistaken for hp... Its probably allot noisier too...

lol ya, most likely, it will give you small gains, but mostly it improves responsiveness just like boostzex said... dont' forget your butt dyno is connected to your ears...... it does make it seem like you've got a bigger engine....

Throttle response is actually decreased because it takes a longer time for pressure to build up in your intake. If you're seeing any gains from basic I/H/E It will be high end power, not low end and throttle response. you'll also notice a drop in fuel economy especially if you drive your car in the higher rpm band. You're going to consume more spark and fuel for that added air to the combustion mix. IMHO You want to make a car go faster, you gotta change the motor, the camshaft, or go forced induction. everything else is negligible afterthat |
I lost allot of low end power from my headders...but top end, like on the highway was very noticable... Intake did nothing but make me press harder on the pedel...

Hey Boostzex,
The resonator is there for many reasons, two of which are: 1) Makes things quiet. 2) Control resonance frequency to some pre-engineered optimal level, where the frequency of the bouncing air particles actually bounces in a special "excited" way all around and generates more power than things otherwise would (given the same tiny diameter). Japanese engineers spent months designing stuff like this... Unless you get a full CAI, this is a waste of time. Even most short rams are not "tuned" with resonance frequencies, but I must admit they provide larger diameters. So its kinda like they "shake" more air particles into the tube, even though it has a smaller diameter. People wonder why AEM CAI's shows better results than "no name" CAI's. I'll bet this is entirely due to their advanced "tuning". It comes down to fluid mechanics... What sucks completely though is that AEM CAI's are built for each model of car with the stock motor. Thus, the AEM CAI frequency for a civic with a B18C is probably not 100% ideal (because it was designed for a 1.5 or 1.6 L motor...). Of course, there is always more to it... |

i took my resonator thing out and just had an elbow pointing forward its like a cold air intake... i notice it has a bit more pep to its step.... but fuel millage when down from it... it would be more noticeable the more mods you have done
