Is this normal?
 

Nothing too serious, but if its a sign of a future problem then I would like to get it fixed now rather then later. Its seems like maybe my alternator may be going but I am not too sure. The battery doesn't die or anything nor does my battery light come on so it could be something else.

When I am holding my brakes at a stop I notice that the car seems to be working harder then when I release the brake. As soon as I lay on the brakes again there is more vibration and the car is definetly working a bit harder. Also just turning on my circulating fans alone (Without A/C) I can hear the idle change.


Is this something I should be concerned about?

Don't think it is normal. Brakes need vacuum, could that be the problem? Like a vacuum leak somewhere?

take it to partsource and get your charging system checked for free...the test will tell you if your alt is charging, if your battery is correct voltage etc and it prints the results for you to see what the scrill is

i believe part source/ct will only test it if its out of your vehicle.

Get an AVR test done. It's 40 or 70$ I forget which one.

You may be right Chris I think they only test it if its out of the car. In either case I will look into getting the correct test done.

Could be a possible vaccum leak but its not like my idle is surging or jumping.

Like, a very very very very tiny leak... ?

Did the idle increase or decrease? If you say is the vacuum leak, the only thing that I could think of is your power booster.

Well looking at the tach it doesn't really budge, but you can just hear the idle of the engine change. But to be more specific at a stop if I stay on the brakes I can hear the idle increase then if i let of the brakes the idle will go up a bit but then settle. Hope that makes sense, it would suck if it had somethign to do with my brake booster since I had my master changed less then 3 months ago.

I had a vaccuum leak on my b16 when i first got it and didn't realize it. After i fixed it the engine ran exactly the same, as if it didn't care. An the leak was on a vaccuum line fitting right off the intake manifold.

My civic does something similar when i turn the fans on or off, it's normal cause it's drawing current, and we all know b16's have absolutly no torque, especially at idle, so it's normal to hear it work a little harder to match the current the accessories are drawing from the alt.

As for pressing the brakes....i'll try this on my way home tonight and let you know what i find.

you must of had a small vac. leak. Most vacuum leaks throw off the ecu.

and no cars have tq at idle lol

my car does the same thing but it seems to be more of an alternator issue... usually when i turn my lights on my revs drop.
