VSS maybe? My old car would periodically lose the speedo and it was showing a cel. It was the VSS sensor failing.

yeah it definately sounds like a speedo.

hmmm.. I checked the price of a VSS, honda says 150 -180 bucks just for the part. the only problem is it only acted up twice. I found out Im not getting vtec because it gets a signal from the VSS. Wonder if I can get a used one from somwhere.

I got mine used from a shop that does swaps. They had a pile of older trannys lying around and they gave me the sensor for $50. Try a wrecker maybe.

Fixed the problem!

So I took out the cluster to check for loose plugs, none. Then I disconnected the plug for the VSS and to my eyes very bad corosion. So bad the centre pin on the Sensor had broken off. Just as I was looking for used sensors, i could only match up the sensor part but not the gear part. I spoke to a friend at Acura and he said all I have to do is remove the Cotter pin on the sensor and swap the gears. I re/re the sensor and still didnt work. I rechecked the socket to the sensor and found the female end corroded as well. I cut the plug and re soldered/heat shrink another plug and weather proofed with rust check. Now speed and Vtec is BACK!

thank all that gave suggestions and hope this helps some elses problem.
