New Good Engine Builder! Suggestions?
I Need to find a good reliable Engine Builder
any suggestions? Need to rebuild my D16Y8 ASAP.... already got all the parts Thanks for the help ppl |
where are you located? Mississauga engines is good and so is Gord Bush. If LEITNER would hurry up and open his shop i would recommend going to him.

I'll be the first to ask and maybe I'm dumb, but why would you waste the money re-building your D16? Are you planning something for the future? I'd rather spend the money doing a swap.

In my opinion i think a rebuild is a great idea and cheaper and better bang for the buck than doing a swap. And you're rebuilding the engine, fresh, 0 kms. When you do a swap (with a used engine usually with true mileage unknown) you are taking a chance at the engine being in worse condition than the engine you are replacing.
And while you are rebuilding it you can build it up a little too, more than just to stock specs. You can easily make the same WHP as a b16 with the same amount of money BUT you will be getting a brand new engine. |
there's it's up and down's but atleast if your get your engine rebuilt its fresh and you can make a SOHC VTEC engine still haul ass ive seen it b4 i had an old d16 si motor from a 89 SI i had that engine beating LS VTEC'S b16a's ect nobody could understand and belived me when i told em ihave a SOHC motor

Break it in nice.My buddy had a built stock SOHC from a 93 DX coupe. ****ing thing hauled!!! He broke it in mint and the Rebuild was flawless.His dad owns brooklyn cycle and built race bike engines for a living. With some serious compression and just I,H,E this thing ripped,even with the long DX gears. He broke it in nice for 10,000kms and just murdered the thing after. Went through 3 sets of driveshafts. Thing is still running to this day after 8 yrs and 2 owners. Fresh rebuilds can take some serious abuse if broken in properly. Your definetly in a good situation. Good luck on that.

exactly, a B16A2 is what $3000 installed atleast, so take your own D16Y and rebuild it, then your getting brand new not 100,000km JDM engine claimed to only have 40,000km. plus that way you can set your D16 for what you want, turbo...lower the compression, NA raise the compression...so much more options and a D16 can kill a B16A for the cost involved in the sway and getting it to run properly.
If my D16 goes (its tickin alot more lately, :( ) then i'll be rebuilding too so its new but try for 140fwhp which is give or take 5hp what B16's would put to the wheels. ROY, what kinda build are you going with? |
my B16 dyno'd 137 with just a short ram, header and a crummy ass spoon chip. It had the stock CX exhaust. I have a 2.5 now but I havent dyno'd it. I spent a lot of dough too. You could definetly make the same power for half the money of a B swap. Its definetly a good Idea if you only want 130-150 to the wheels.
I just spent the extra money Because I want to run 12's or Even 11's one day. B's are better for big power. But for everyday a D is great. Im missin the long gears on the highway thats for sure. But I sure love the Power and the revs. D for everday and for cost effectiveness. B if you really want to go fast. How hot are you building this engine? What HP do you expect with what mods? |
since my engine is current busted i'm thinkin about buyin another car and blowing some money on the h22 on a rebuild... 2.5L = :yummy:

the d-series being a lil brother of the B series... has so much potential!!
people look at it at BLAH ONE CAM cant do nothing... not necessarily true! and plus u can buy a d-series for what.. 150 bucks.. hahaha u can 10 engines for the amount of a swap! and have them in stock! |

ROY, what kinda build are you going with? all my friends are supprised how the car performs coz they never thought a SOHC this quick it's currently putting out 149hp/149tq SC@8psi :D took a long time (tuning) to get to this point but it's well worth it.... :thumbup: so... i'm not going to give up on it since it's only a stock engine right now the headgasket is going so i might as well do the whole thing to get more power out of it... i love the torque it provides from 2500rpm up all the way to redline the only down fall with my setup is the tranny.... there's nothing after 3rd gear hahha....so i'll have to figure something out |

What HP do you expect with what mods? already spent too much $ but i'm not going to abbandon what i had started for a swap so just more $ put into it ... i think it'll be worth it on the end run I don't think i'll get as much torque with a swap as I'm getting right now after this build :D |
