What kinda car are you planning to put it into?

things to look for are broken sensors, damaged oilpan, pull the valve cover and check the oil...

Does this come with warrenty for 500$?

phil1907 31-May-2005 07:57 PM

no there is no warrantie it is off sum guy i dont kno thats why i dont trust it its prolly been pushed enuff, also it is goin into a 1990 civic

If you car is an Si I'd recomend that you look into a sohc d15b vtec. Your ecu can be easily programed to run vtec and the power output is comparable, plus you gain vtec by going d15b.

The ZC is an older engine, and does not have the reliability that the d series has. Be vary weary of buying without warrenty and ask for a compression test if possible.
If the engine is in another car already and still running, look over recent emission tests and that will also give you a partial indication of the health of the engine.

do i need to change any mounts or the ecu or axles for this kind of swap

Um the ZC is pretty much a D series and is just as reliable as any other D series if taken care of. When buying them though its buyer beware just like buying any used motor. And why the fcuk would you downgrade from a 1.6 litre to a 1.5 vtec? The 1.5 vtec was meant to be a fuel economy motor. Just do a 1.6 Vtec or if your old motor is still decent do a mini me conversion to it. And for 500 dollars for the engine and tranny is a decent deal, though its really on the cheap side so Im not exactly suprised that the motor was fubar'd.

You can reuse the axles and motor mounts (though i would replace the mount with new ones because they'll be worn out. However to do a Vtec conversion and stay with your OBD-0 you will need to either get a PS9 (Automatic EX sedan computer) and have it reprogrammed to run Vtec, or keep the original ecu and build or buy a vtec controller.

So do you know for a fact there are problems with it, what leads you to believe this? I mean really the price you are paying for the swap is what they are worth even though they sell for alot more because people are stupid and dont know when they are getting ripped off.

I guess we should get Phil to specify if its a sohc ZC or dohc ZC. I dont want to get into a debate about what engine is better, but here is where i was comming from:

Having inspecded and compression tested hundreds of these engines, the D15s outperforms the ZCs on a constant basis. The d15vtec yes will give him better gas milage (thats a good thing!), while still however providing the same or better performance that a zc will. The d15 is also lighter than a dohc zc (which i assumed he was talking about), and we all know that the better the hp/weight ratio, the faster the car will be.

In the end, both engines will work in his car, and work well. It all comes down to what kind of budget he is working with and what his future plans for the car are. A mini-me as you suggested is also a good option. If the zc is still in the car and running for 500$ including a header and intake you dont have much to lose. If the tranny is good then atleast you get that out of it as well. How many kms on the ZC?

Here's an idea....why not just buy the motor from Teknotik. :D

Warranty included:bling:

A couple hundred dollars more perhaps, is well worth peace of mind.

phil1907 01-Jun-2005 09:04 PM

wats a rough estimate of this same setup at Teknotik

I was in the process of sending a pm to teknotik about this exact same thing.

So not to thread jack but:

For a DOHC ZC Black top

1. Does teknotik warranty the motor?
2. Can you provide/show us compression test results?
3. Do you have them in stock?
4. Is the price currently $700 (as stated on your website?)-what does that include (ie longblock only or tranny as well)?

Thanks

Feel free to post your reply in here or pm me.
