need wisdom from the wise suspension guru's
ok, I got my nice new set of tokico whites 5way adjustables
and dont want to mate them with a horrible cRACTIVE coilover
im in the market now looking for either a very nice spring or coilover..
i like the skunk2, and ground control coilovers..
but going spring will it give me better suspension feel with my setup...
90 civic hatchback
Full Prothane bushing Kit
added rear sway bar
tokico white's
ingalls camber adjuster kit
neuspeed front & rear upper strut bars.
will also have cusco rear lowers shortly..
springs or coilovers.....

coilovers GCs' particularly jsut because you can adjust ride height and swap spring for different spring rates....you can get different sprign rates...jsut call them up tell them what you got and what you want to use it for and they will set you up with what you need....you have more flexibility with the gc's....skunk 2 arent' that great at all.....with gc's you can dial it in ride height and rate wise....but if you jsut want a clean drop with a mild/decetn sprign rate for daily drivign and occassional track play then a h&r sport will be fine...dont' get a race spring they are garbage.....in a crx you will be ridding the bump stops in hard corners. but the coilovers have draw backs like perches that can be *****...probobly a much higher sprign rate than your adverage spring (tight *** ride, not so much give for daily driving) so weight it out with what you want to use it for...hard edge=GC's mild= a sport spring (neuspeed h&R)

I'd say a 350 front 450 rear spring rate ... get custom spring rates from somewhere linear springs and have them be 1.5 inches shorter then stock ... a nice drop and a nice handling ride....
and some bars wouldn';t hurt.. contact GC... very friendly

i dont think adjustable springs are worth it.... i mean say you raise the car for winter.... by the time spring comes around the perches are rusted and useless.... springs are the way to go.... i dont know what everybody is saying when they say race springs are to stiff to low... you'll blow you this or that
just get some springs matt... and then sell me that header

the point of adjustable coilovers wasnt' so you could raise yoru car for winter then "slam it" in the summer...it's jsut what idiot ricers started usign them for...it is so you can adjsut your ride height to get it perfect or for different conditions on a track...Gc's come with straight rate springs....take them off in the winter and go back to stock dont' **** around take care of them...

red90dx, I vote springs.... I had ground controls, they were very good but I think their springs are really short in comparison to other spring setups. Choose a good spring based on what you use the car for. progressive rate for daily driving and comfort, or liner for all out performance. But CG and Skunk2 are by no means a bad choice, but know that at the end the price of CG and your shocks will total out to more than if you had just picked up a set of threaded body coilovers like Progress.

bbarbulo was speaking of progressive rated springs ... not progress springs (although they are ok I wouldn't recommend them .... my feelings stand at linear rates)
anyways a progressive rated spring is a spring that changes the spring rate as it compresses for example the spring could be 350 lbs/in uncompresses and 500 lbs/in half way compressed and 1000 lbs/in when it's nearly fully compressed....
seriously though honda uses linear rates and I'm not one to try to go against a few million in research....
(here come the flames....)

1) bolt on 1 rule book... very important if you want to build a car that is competitive in it's class so that you know what you can and cannot do
2) bolt on some driver training .... as much as you can
3) R compound tires ... sticky stuff is good
4) alignment
5) srpings and shocks and stuff...
6) whatever else you want to do in the rule book...
spring rates do not affect how dangerous an autoX is at various speeds.... tehy do however make the car handle differently which is why driver training is mod 2 and springs are mod 5 you need to know how to control a car (99.9% of drivers out there don't) before you modify how it behaves....
