Need tips for better E.T PLEASE!!!

Long story short, I'm going to Sparta this friday, racing my friends CRX with I/H/E and clutch, lowered, 15's 7.5in in the front and 7in wide in the back. vs. me, 92 si HB with intake and no muffler. I CANT LOSE!!! I am pretty much going to cut the car, remove headlight for intake, and I have almost bald 14's right now, and I will put a better set on the front. I'm a better driver, but now his car is hooking up like theres no tomorrow. Any tips to free up a few extra horses? Thanks.

Shane

IF you have power steering take off the belt for the race, it wont give you much , but anything your motor dont have to turn will help.

I might try that, I am also considering removing the exhaust piping after the headers. Neither cars are anything to brag about, it's just that I CANT lose to this guy, I'll never hear the end of it.

find a secluded area and practise your launches. Great launches win races.

I owuldnt take too much of your exhaust off, most smaller engines need a certain amount of exhaust back pressure to run , or at least run well. AND yes launches are very impotrant.

Cool the air intake air as much as possible. Warm air in the intake kills HP.

If you have to, run the pipe out thought the headlight bezel.

I was actually thinking of attaching some piping for the intake to be able to draw from the headlight thats removed, I am putting my new tires on in 30min, and will be practising launching on better rubber. I spin to 7gs and half of 2nd gear right now on my bald tires.

try starting in second gear that way you eliminate a shift altogether

and you'll eliminate yourself from the race...

Should be pretty close, but the CRX weighs a fair bit less...

think before you post that is not an uncommon thing to do guy

Enlighten me how that type of a launching technique is applicable to an 125 bhp @ 6600/106 lb-ft @ 5200 motor. And i do think b4 i post ty very much, unlike your fine example of hurling insults. Btw, nice to meet you, and who's 'guy'?

well getting back to the original topic....

I think you should pull out your interior... make the car lighter remove everything you don't need from the car ..... it'll help the all too important power to wieght ratio...

even though I can sense the flames coming from newbies that just don't know who they are talkjing about ... I would also look very very carefully at b16civic's suggestions ... the launch doesn't matter as much as who crosses the line first and if you have to shift one less time it'll be you....b16civic knows his stuff about cars and drag racing...even if he does only drive a rocket powered wheel chair

Try adjusting the timing of your cam gears. I knew a guy with an Acura RS who did that and ran consistent high 14's.

Btw.. i'd still like to know how shifting from second in this instance will make him faster.

I used to drive a 12 second 68 camaro at the track and i say
the race is won or lost at the starting line due to how good or bad your reaction time is, and never ever ever skip a gear, maybe short shift first if you spion too much , but dont skip it.

Just my opinion.

Well, heres the outcome! I removed the back seats, spare tire, and carpet in the back. Left drivers seat in for G/F. Removed headlight for better air flow to the intake. Ran the CRX and pulled a 16.2 to his 16.4. I WON!!! Best run was 16.1 not to bad for 1st time at the track. Traction was a problem launching a few times though. Worst part of the night. Got charged with careless driving on the way there. Check out my post in the "Tickets, Insurance, Accidents" fourm.

I was the blue 92 civic HB, missing 1 headlight, and had 2 horrible launches where I thought I broke my tranny. Friends in red 91 civic HB, and red 90 CRX, and silver 90 Accord that did the 3 gear burnout! What color was is your neon. I left early because G/F was cold.

Yeah I remember seeing you. My neon was the white 1st gen(98), there was another guy running his blueish 2nd gen atx, don't know if any other neons were running that night though, but a few people came with me to watch :P
