Need suggestions for a more comfy ride!
 

Hi all,

I need some suggestions from the pros. Here is my current suspension setup:

99 Coupe
Koni Yellows Coilovers - lowered maybe less than 2"
15" sir rims - 195/60/15
Engine stabilizer bar, rear upper and lower stabilizer bars

The ride on the car is terrible..I basically feel every single bump on the road and its very uncomfortable..the suspension is really good..it feels nice for a track maybe b/c it glues so well to the road but I don't race...I just want a comfortable ride but I don't want to return it to stock suspension. I adjusted the koni's stiffness about 10 times on ALL of the settings and it makes no difference.

Basically i'm thinking about taking them out, getting rid of them and grabbing an aftermarket strut (tokiko?) and lowering springs (h&r) 2". I don't want it slammed..just a bit lowered. Also, if I take all of the strut bars out, will it make the ride better? What strut and spring has been known to give the best ride?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

lol wish it was that easy. I know it wont be like stock but i've been in a couple of lowered cars which were MUCH MUCH more smoother..they were running kyb's/eibacks..tokiko/h&r...just wondering if there are any other suggestions and I was wondering if the removal of the strut bars will make a difference..

The reason for your lack of comfort has more to do with the coilover sleeves you are using then the Koni shocks (I assume you have sleeves, unless you have the Koni full threaded coilover). Coilover sleeves, be they Ground Control, Skunk2, etc. all come with pretty firm springs.

Simply adjusting the damping on your Koni's will not have much effect as you noticed yourself.

If comfort is your main concern, I would first ditch the coilover sleeves. In their place, get a nice soft pair of spring. Some of the softest you can get are Tein H-tech, Tein S-tech, and the H&R OE. They will still give you a mild drop, but will be noticeably more comfortable.

Whether you want to keep the Koni is your call. In my opinion, its a fantastic shock, and with the softer springs it should ride pretty well. They are valved a little more agressively though, so I would use them on their softer settings.

Alternatively you can also switch out the Koni's for a less aggressive shock such as a Tokico Blue, or Koni Red. But I would first change the sleeves and see if that will suffice.

Also, a note on the strut bars. Taking them out will not have ANY effect on comfort. Strut bars are not a supension mod, they are a chassiss mod. They help strengthen the body to prevent flex.

well ur car is lowered wat do u expect? lol ... if ne thing the strut bars increase ur handling becuz theres less flexing when u turn so u get a smother turn its more of a performance part but i wouldnt take them out. if u want lowered expect a bumpy ride

Im on stock shocks and sportlines..

Rides great, dont have to slow down for speed bumps or pot holes.. although I miss being nice and low..

2Join Performance, im going to take your advise..i'll try to swap the springs first and see how that goes...otherwise i'll change the struts as well. Everyone says the coilovers have ****ty rides so maybe i'll think about changing over to a strut/spring combo. Our winters are not terrible..I made it throughout the past 2 yrs with the car being lowered so I don't need to adjust the height. The koni yellows are full (spring and coil)

Not true if you have adjustable damper controls. If I put mine on 'soft' the ride is just as smooth as stock.

im riding tokico blue gas shocks with apex springs its a nice smooth ride i think with the car being a little lowered
