Need some opinions

Well here's the story. I planned on gettin a swap done at a shop, the shop WILL remain nameless as i am not trying to give the shop a bad reputation just looking for advice. The shop owner told me on the phone that it was $2600 for parts and $800 or $900 for install plus money for any other parts that will be needed as necessary while doing the swap. Which i was ok with cause i can't afford to have my car off the road for long cause i work full-time.
So i gave a $2500 cash deposit so they could get the parts. Turns out the parts arrived way late (actually haven't arrived yet) and the price now is $4000 plus tax and it will take 2-3 days to complete. That a lot more $$$ than originally stated.
So on the phone with the shop onwer I told him i was thinkin about gettin my cash back. He told me their would be a 25% restocking fee....thats $650!!!
So i was thinkin' about doing the swap myself. I have no experience with previous swaps, but have sucessfully installed coilovers, springs and struts, sway bars, intake, short shifter, done brake jobs, removed head and cleaned it, changed valves, springs and retainers.
So to all you first-time swap guys i am asking for advice. Is it pheasable to do the swap in a weekend...with all the parts in advance? I mean, say things go wrong, which they always do, is it still possible to do in a weekend in a one car garage with air tools and a brilliant problem solving handyman of a father who has helped me on all my car adventures?
I am seriously reconsidering doing it myself or possibly with the help of others....wink wink....possibly others on this board who have done it before...wink....wink.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

People on this board can do the install for you...not sure how much they charge.

I know one person who can do B series swaps in a matter of hours.

swaps aren't that hard and you could do it in a day.. but if you have to do wiring it will take you awhile that depends on what you are swapping

If you have everything you think you need, and you have some knowledge, I really can't see why you couldnt do it. The wiring would seem to be the hardest part. Do you have your car prewired for vtec already? (if the motor you're installing has vtec that is)

Personally I'd attempt it, worse case scenario you end up going to another garage to finish the swap right? Make sure you have all you need before you start and another vehicle that you can drive to the store to pick up those parts you forgot about.

What if you bought all the parts that you will need beforehand, then have a reputable shop (Altech, RT) do the swap for you. That way you're only paying someone for the labour to install it, and maybe a few bucks for extra parts. You might even get a warranty on the install. Ask people that are on the board where or who did their swaps then go from there.
