the 97 civic ex sedan is a d16y7 NON v-tec......
the d16y8 v-tec is used in the 1.6 el and the civic si......

the only way to get more power is to swap a vtec head swap in...then you're looking at getting about 127 hp instead of the 106 you currently have

The only 4Door Civics that came with a VTEC engine were in 93-95. They were using the VTEC-E technology. It was badged as a EX-V.

Other than that..your looking at a swap.

The EX-V's were available '92-'95 and came with the D16Z6 (same motor in the Si hatch and Si coupe), which is SOHC VTEC. We have a member who used to own one of these cars in a '92 model, and a former co-worker of mine had one too. The VTEC-E's were in the 5th gen Vx's and 6th gen Hx's So no honorary membership for you! HAHA!

Brenny Boy, unless you have a U.S. spec Ex sedan you don't have VTEC...

Exclamation

I got the same problem guys!

1997 Civic EX 4 door.

The thing just won't go on the highway!
Accelerating and merging on the hi-way is a b$tch too ...

All I need is at least 10 extra HP out of the car ...

Are there any easily reversable mods out there?

CAI is one of them. What else can I do to it to get at least 10 HP, and so that I could easily undo the mods later.

Thanks!

Oh..your right, the VTEC-E technology was used in the VX's. But the EX-V was a SOHC VTEC car..

taken from http://civic.vtec.net/civic-92/specifications.html

VX Hatchback Key Features:
1.5 Liter, 92-hp, 16-Valve VTEC-E Engine

Si Hatchback Key Features:
1.6 Liter, 125-hp, 16-Valve VTEC Engine

EX Sedan adds:
1.6 Liter, 125-hp, 16-Valve VTEC Engine
I was getting all my badging mixed up (-E, -V...)

NOS....

IF you want something easy to remove...

Also promotes premature engine blowup...

You'll have a new motor before you know it...

hehe ... that's not exactly what I want

I'd also go for mods that are not clearly visible, like Header, Lighter/Smaller underdrive pulley ...

swap is not an option ....

Any other suggestions guys?
I am really desparate ....

Thanks!

The thing is, all I need is some extra 10HP ... just to make my life easier when driving ....

Reason why I don't wanna do anything serious, is because I am selling the car in about a year and a half ... just waiting for my insurance to go down a bit, so that I can buy something really worth modifying.

Well, my next car will definately be a Civic ... just a newer model, Si , or even an SiR (if I'd be able to afford one).
Insurance is my main problem right now ....

For modding and getting the most out of your car performance wise you already have the perfect car in many peoples opinion.
