Need my rotors machined, anyone know a place?

i need place to machine my stock rotors (fronts), hoping to do it fairly cheap. I just need some prices of places in this area that will do a good job. damn honda wants 160$. I know shops will do em for 15$ each, but i dunno where these shops are

kwikb16a2 22-Mar-2004 05:59 PM

jus get new rotors, aftermarket is pretty cheap

imported_BoOsTd 22-Mar-2004 06:02 PM

buy new ones, it isnt worth machining these days:D

J 22-Mar-2004 06:18 PM

Partsource can do them, but yeah I would agree with the others, just get new ones its not much of a price difference and there new

civicnation 22-Mar-2004 06:57 PM

thanks, i'm gonna get new ones, only 25$ each and machining costs that much so **** that, i'm getting new ones

anyone know how to install them? it seems simple enough, but i just want to know if anyonw knows how to do it

Cynikal.Mindset 22-Mar-2004 07:00 PM

installation:

jack up car
support with jack stands
remove wheels
unbolt calipers from carriers
pull off caliper (hang them from upper control arm using string or a piece of hanger, dont let em dangle by the flex hose)
remove rotors (may require removing set screws)
replace with new ones

reassmble reverse of above

its super easy job!

thanks a lot, big help, i'll attempt is as soon as it gets a little warmer, hopefully i don't **** it up

imported_BoOsTd 22-Mar-2004 08:31 PM

those set screws can be a bitch if they dont budge, dont force them u will strip them then ur into drilling or screw removeal tools.. instead u need an impack screwdriver, you hit it with a hammer and it twists... or airtools:D

Gunmetalef 22-Mar-2004 08:46 PM

i got a set of cross drilled rotors for only 100$ they are really nice too.. god bless ebay:thumbup:

civicnation 22-Mar-2004 10:07 PM

anyone have pics of the actual removal?

location of set screws?
are the bolts visable on teh caliper carriers?

kwikb16a2 22-Mar-2004 10:45 PM

the set screws are on the middle of the rotor, phillips head screw to be exact. As for the bolts for the calipars, they are on the back side of the calipar

civicnation 22-Mar-2004 10:56 PM

thanks a lot, now it's simple, no guess work

1sloweg 22-Mar-2004 11:18 PM

ur goign to need an impact driver i can almost guaruntee that. Hondas have one of the worst brake setups around

imported_BoOsTd 23-Mar-2004 12:21 AM

I can think of worse lol. Hondas are easy! and the brake setup is so simple your grandma could figure it out!

Cynikal.Mindset 23-Mar-2004 01:14 AM

yea, I could do a brake job on a honda blind folded...those stupid set screws are usually gone after the first brake job anyways

spracingsports 23-Mar-2004 04:03 AM

civicnation 23-Mar-2004 07:09 AM

how much do brembo rotors go for?

civicnation 23-Mar-2004 07:09 AM

compared to teh $25 ones i'm getting...
