Need to Lower Car Help?

Hey guys, I'm thinking about lowering my car a bit, around 1.7-2 inch drop is all im looking for. Right now, all my suspension is stock. I have a 96 civic dx 2 door coupe with a full skirt kit, wings west shark fin so its pretty big and a heavy system in the back. I've seen some cars with cut springs, heated up springs, some have progessive springs some have shocks somes have coilovers **** some have everything. Im just looking for the best, easiest and smoothiest way to get my car lowered. I dont want to get headaches from my car bouncing up and down non stop like my friend with just coilovers on his car. I'm looking to spend up to $500 but wouldnt mind paying less if its basically the same thing. Ive see theres Tein S springs on sale, ive seen h&r springs and toms coilovers, what are da main diff between these or are they none?

well for the ride quality you desire you will prolly need to spend more than $500. Since you have a kit and heavy system i wouldn't skimp on the shocks. Get a spring, if you want a good ride quality, that is matched well with the shock. Or to take the guess work out of it buy a cup kit. Which is a spring and shock package. I am using the tokico advanced handling kit, which is just a 1.7" drop spring with tokico illuminas (5 way adjustable). I paid about $800 for this a couple of years ago. I've hade it ever since. Even drive it through the winter with no problems, but i don't have a body kit or heavy system in the trunk.
This is how low my car is. The ride quality with this kit is near stock and the handling is greatly improved. Not to mention it gives the car a nice stance, low but not too low, which i think would be perfect for your application. The price of this kit has prolly come down a bit too since i purchased mine.

Another popular combination is H&R sport springs with Koni Red or Yellows.

that drop looks perfect, cuz once i add in my kit and the weight of my system it will look real low and clean and not rub too much, probably a lil but thats expected. Now whats the difference between getting a spring and shock combo to getting omni power coilovers or something like that?

Thanks in advance.

well if you decided to go with omni power coilovers the only difference is price and adjustability. But if you went with a coilover sleeve on a shock vs a spring and shock theres a big difference. There's less spring with the coilovers b/c of the metal sleeve it sits on, and personally i would rather have a full length spring absorbing the bump then a shorter spring on a metal sleeve. Springs give a better ride quality then coilover sleeves. And a real coilover (omni power, tien) are more expensive than a spring and shock.

$500 just isn't enough to get some decent shocks and springs. I recommend saving a little more if you really want to maintain some ride comfort. I can recommend the neuspeed sport springs, about 1.8 drop in the front and 1.6 in the back. Great budget springs, don't think you can beat them. I use them now with illuminas. Very tolerable on the bumps in the city and great on the highway.

ok so for 1000 all together, i already know a shop that will install for about 150-200 they said, so if i put an extra 300, making it 800. I should be able to find a good combo of springs n shocks? And how do i find out what shocks work great with what springs. Im interested in h&r springs or eibach or tein s, or neuspeed springs, so what shocks work good with these? thanks.

coilovers would be the same price, its the same process as springs, I could see them ONLY charging a bit more if you were finiky and they had to keep changing the height of the coils

you can get a decent suspension setup used from the classifieds. I just recently purchased som KYB AGX shocks with H & R sport spring for just over 400 dollars. Good thing about em is the adjustable dampening, so i can change my suspesion to nice and stiff or nice and soft so it rides like a normal car. should be installing it next week. U should install your own too, its fairly simple.
