need help with tranny

need help with tranny

i have a tranny and i don't know what kind it is...so is there a way to tell by the gears what kind off tranny it is?the case was sandblasted so there are no codes on the casing.....its a hydro tranny

other than popping open the tranny i don't think there's an easy way to tell, unless you wanna put it in the car and run it to see what RPM's you do in each gear.....

yes there is, large bearing tranny or small bearing tranny... that should get you on your way.

or you can be smart and look for the casting marks found by the filler. The B000 marking designates the Si/EX tranny a "A000" designates the DX/CX/LX tranny with the crappy gearing

bbarbulo - He didn't mention if it was B or D-series. what about for B-series trannies?

true Scott... but on this site not too many ppl have B's anyways. too poor I guess.

it's a part code... could be used on more than just trannies...

like P75 ECU, P72 head... P20 tranny.... the part code I believe refers to the application (fitment)

tranny is apart and i was told it was a B-seires sir tranny but the casing said s80.....i also have bought a tranny off the same guy and he said its a gsr tranny and it also had said s80 on it.......i was told on the sir tranny the casing crack so he changed it but how can i tell buy the gears or any parts inside the tranny if it a ls or sir tranny?

S80 is an LS or GSR tranny.
Y21 or S4C is the SIR tranny.

If you have the tranny open, does the diff have solid bearings, or tapered roller bearings? GSR has the roller bearings.
