need advice people

What do u guys think of short ram air intake compare to cold air intake? Which 1 sounds better? Because i know someone in this board is trying to sell some ractive intake. What price should i be looking for if it's brand new? Is ractive any good in intakes?

1 more question. I've just had a paint job on my car and i've also put some wingswest lip on my eg hatch. I have 195/60/15 with alum 1.6EL turtle rims stock suspension rite now. I would like to make the car a little lower without rubbing my fenders or rear quarter panels. I really don't want to get low profile tires and is there a way i can lower my car a little like maybe 1.7 drop or maybe 2 inch drop with the 195/60/15? I also don't want to go with steeles 13 or 14 inch. I also don't want a bumpy ride? What do u people consider using? I've heard ppl say H&R? should i use stock shocks or not because i know stock shocks with aftermarket springs don't last the shocks too long. This car is just my regular driving car and i don't need any heavy performance shocks and springs so i would like to make it sit a little low with my stock suspension feel. Is that possible? I know it is very hard. So i should get hard suspension or soft suspension? because i know hard suspension won't cause my tires to hit the fenders or rear quarter if i don't lower it too much. Got any advice ppl? Thanx. Sorry for wasting your time. People don't post reply like cutting your springs and stuff.

Personally i like a short ram intake over a cold air, ever since i've been to the dyno at least.
If you are going to lower your car do it right the first time, trust me. Get springs and shocks. I am dropped 1.8" all around with tokico springs and illumina's and i must say it is a very nice ride and not too low, but low enough, adjustable shocks too. Didn't break the bank either.

I've had a SRI, CAI and now a stock intake with the resonator removed. I didn't really notice any difference in power on my stock engine, but the SRI was louder then the CAI and stock.

As for brand, a pipe is a pipe in most cases. Some are supposedly painted with heat resistance paint, but I doubt you would notice the difference. A name brand one might fit better though.

I'll agree with zeeman on the suspension. Spend the money and do it right the first time. H&R/Neuspeed/Tein springs with Koni shocks. Replace any worn bushings and buy some decent tires,

short ram on a d series just makes noise...your better off just going with a k&n drop in filter

cold air intake is the way to go.

for every 1 degree colder the air is it gives u 1 more hp

you really won't feel major power gains unless you do all the bolt ons intake header and exhaust together

test and data sheets please?

Where did you hear this....so when its colder outside my engine makes more hp? lol

Well i proved on the dyno that a SRI makes more whp than a CAI. I saw this with my own two eyes. This was with no tuning just replacing the CAI with a SRI.

I didn't see anything about for every 1 degree colder the air is it gives u 1 more hp. And that test is on a K-series so its completely irrellivent. Thats like comparing apples to oranges. K-series' respond well to mod's.

YES!!!

colder air = denser charge
denser charge = more power

i cant confirm the 1hp per degree thing though.

cold air makes more power than warm/hot air, thats just common sense everyone...dyno sheets not required.

DefconDave 07-Oct-2005 12:18 PM

1 degree = 1hp = a little to ambitous

I don't know about the actual ratio of HP vs Air Temp, however I can definetly say that Hp and air temperature are related. We also have to take into account variables such as density, barometric pressure, velocity...etc. If not then why would we run intercoolers? Infact these are the same principles that NOS, and Cry02 use.

As for SRI vs CAI??? I like CAI better, it seems to me that it has more potential. Dyno testing is great. However it does not simulate road conditions accurately (speed, density, bugs....LOL), and unfortunately, the air in your SRI OR CAI is directly related to the ambient air.

zeeman 07-Oct-2005 12:26 PM

yes, i agree with ^^^^
Now, say you have a CAI vs someone with the identical setup with a SRI (not completely the same since every engine is different i know, but entertain the thought). Now drive around town for a while. The person with the CAI (in my opinion) will have the advantage b/c it will suck it "cold"-er air than the SRI will, especially after some time of driving b/c the SRI sucks in air from the engine bay which the temp's will raise with continued use/abuse of the engine. But the CAI will still be sucking in the cooler air. So the few hp more the SRI will produce on the dyno will deminish as ambient temps increase during regular driving, so in theory a CAI is better (in my opinion). But it shouldn't really matter b/c the only place someone should really only get full use of a SRI or CAI is on the drag strip, but you won't be driving around for extended periods of time to raise under hood temps while at the track....compared to the street at least.
Does this make any sense to anyone?

LEITNER 07-Oct-2005 12:56 PM

if this was the track and the car was full on performance i could see this thread being usefull but its not and i dont think anyone here with a stock engine could tell the difference between a stock air box, cai, and sri. my ass dyno sure cant. i would go for whats cheaper, its an aluminum tube with an airfilter for goodness sake.

That's the point I was trying to make in my post.

If your looking for something that is not to low / high try H&R O.E. Sport. It's suppose to be a very mild drop and h&r's have a good rep. You might also wanna try tein springs as well, check there site and it should give you there expected drop. Or factory type r springs should be alright. Once you start with suspension it never ends.

Do your research before you buy and you should be ok. If you find a good brand of shocks go for it, they are worth the money cause they can handle the added spring rates beter than o.e. shocks can. Make sure to test them before you buy
good luck

DefconDave 07-Oct-2005 03:22 PM

How about some sport coil-overs? Like Omni's or Tein basic or Buddy club N+ spec. Since your buying shocks and springs anyways. I think you might wanna get somthing coilover since your running the wrong size tire for an EG. At least that will give you some adjustment just incase.
