my vtec stoppd working!!!

hi. i have a type r in a eg civic. just last night the vtec stopd enganging. i think im to blaim for it. because i ripped it once while it wasnt quite warm yet. and it didnt go off. but since then, even when i do warm it up. it donest come back on. does anyone have any advice or any info on situations like this? could this be an expensive fix?? thanx.

have you checked your wiring? To make sure the soleniod is getting a signal?

zeeman 03-Nov-2006 10:44 AM

there are many things that can cause vtec to not work.
First check you're oil, make sure the level is ok.
Does your speedo work? Vtec checks for a VSS signal.
Does your temp guage work? Vtec checks for a ECT signal.
Like Brett said, check the wiring, make sure its plugged in tight.

I was just going to mention checking the temp guage and oil, but zeeman covered that and then some

Hey i once had thise issue aswell.. but it was because i used to rip when the car was not warmed up..

- Oil Level
- Make sure the car is warmed up.
- Also you can change the Vtech Solenoid O ring and Filter aswell..
it can possibly be clogged.
- Umm, i recall you can take a 12v source and put it to the solenoid and see if you hear a click sound to make sure that your vtech is working.. just a few pointers because i once had this issue...

my dads civic had the vtec stop working because he was low on oil and he had to fill it up and drive it around for like a day or so and then it started working again.

If no CEL, it's the oil level or the temp is too low. If you have a CEL, clear it (fix the problem) and it should come back. You would be surprised as to what will make it not work.

check your Temperature sensor, cause VTEC should not engagued when the temperature is too low
