My tire treads are messed because of a careless driver

I was driving home on the 401 today, and I was in the passing lane, I noticed that traffic up ahead (about 100m) was slowing to a stop so I start to slow down. The lane to my right was already almost at a stop, then a ****ING STUPID MOTHER****ING 18-wheeler decides to pull into my lane RIGHT in front of me!

I had to slam on my brakes to avoid smashing into his trailer and there was smoke coming from my tires as I skidded from about 80km/h to 10km/h in a few short seconds. Same (although not as bad) with a car behind me.

I was SO ****ING MAD!!! Trucks aren't even supposed to be in that lane, that **** obviously didn't check his mirrors or use his signal, and I almost crashed into him!!!

Now my tires are chewed up on the front where they locked up, at slow speeds I can feel that they aren't as smooth as they were. What should I do? Rotate them to the rear? Buy new ones? (which I don't want to do unless I have to of course).

Here is what they should look like:

Here is what they look like on the front in two patches:

And the weirdest thing happened, for some reason after the episode of slamming on the brakes my hood popped up, not all the way, just at that stage where it is up about an inch until you unlatch it to lift it the rest of the way. Why would that be?

I was so shook up about this incident, and now I am just furious at that trucker, I hope he gets what is coming to him. To top it all off, later in the day I am driving south on Avenue Rd. and because of construction the southbound lane is what used to be the left-turn lane. So some clueless driver pulls right out infront of me and comes to a dead stop, thinking they are in the left turn lane! Again I had to slam on my brakes (although it wasn't nearly as bad because I was just accelerating from a stop).

I am so annoyed at these erratic drivers!!!
:banghead:
What should I do with my tires? Why would my hood pop?

rotating them to the rear will help if your car is front wheel drive which i assume it is. if the problem persists i would buy 2 new tires.

Chris, sounds like you have flat spotted your front tires. If you can see a clear flat spot on the tire(s), it is (they are) garbage. Where a section of tread is significant less than the rest of the tire.

Put them on the back will make less of a vibration as far as driving is concerned, but it does more wrong than good.

Buy two new/use tires.

do a burn out in em and smooth em out...same crap happened to me a couple years back with a dumbass driver jackin on the brakes

ABS ftw - won't spot your tires cuz your brakes won't lock but also increases your stopping time and you may have hit that truck.... i see you have a CX so you dont' have ABS...

new tires are your best bet

imported_chris_v2 04-May-2007 10:46 AM

^^ meh.. if he did have abs he might of ended up crashing into the trailer.

no with abs he could slammed it and pulled to the left without losing control or ruining his tires.
abs pros always outweighs non abs except for track use.

i've locked up my tires with abs...be it it wasnt a crazy lock up but they for sure screeched like banshee

its good that you and your car came out okay. You still could have pulled on to the shoulder. Always use the shoulders on highways for emergencies.

Ive had one occasion where some lady was in the fast lane doing 100 and she got so nervous with people behinder doing 140 (401) that she ended up breaking HARD for no reason just jumpped on to the shoulder and passed her ass. As for your tires? just put them in the rear or buy new ones.

Try doing a burn out to get rid of that layer. Think of it as shaving the top layer off.

imported_mugenpowered 04-May-2007 07:47 PM

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think I'll put them on the back and see how that goes for a bit. If it is bad then I'll have to get new tires, even though I just got these before winter.

And KingJames1983, my wheels are 13's so that won't work but thanks anyways.

imported_kIeRaN 04-May-2007 09:32 PM

u should be putting on your summers by now anyways

imported_mugenpowered 05-May-2007 11:52 AM

^They are all-seasons.

VTEC_Thunder 05-May-2007 03:56 PM

Just pull the ebrake and do a little smoke show for a few seconds....:p
