For my SOHC VTEC buddies...I dont feel VTEC :(

Hey...my D16Y8 has 128km on it...and when im driving I dont feel any sort of indication that VTEC is kicking in...

is start out by launching in a straight line...from stop to 7200rpm...and i listen all the way up...and nothing...

are there parts i can change on the engine to make the vtec come back to life? LOL like changing the cams or cam gears?

I believe at about 5200 you can hear the pitch of the engine change, but I've only noticed this in my friends 95 Si when he punches it wide open.

You have 1 cam and 1 cam gear. Don't get confused.

You really can't hear VTEC engagement in a SOHC VTEC. I have yet to hear any noticeable engagement in any 6th gen Si so far. Maybe a slight change in exhaust tone if you turn off the radio and really listen for it, but nothing engine wise.... And i've sat in quite a few. Now get yourself a JDM Integra SiR-G motor, you'll hear VTEC kick in from a mile away, literally.

si 5800 rpm = vtec engagement point..You will hear a large increase if you add on an intake/exhaust systems...
Also with the upgraded camshaft you will hear and increase in vtec...

Lol ill take you for a ride and you can tell me if you hear it or not

I think it all depends on your intake...if i'm not mistaken the cam in a SOHC is the intake cam and in order to hear the vtec you need a decent filter...my buddy had an hks filter and you could hear a slight noise from the vtec...other than that i doubt you'll hear it...b'c i never heard it in mine

The only time I've ever felt a changeover was in my buddy's S2000 on Friday night. That was a feeling I won't soon forget.

I think you're mistaking it for the sound of the little squirrels screaming when you run them over.... just because there is a sound change in the rpm band doens't mean it's the VTEC, could be valves, pistons, or anything in the rotational assembly that's seeing more friction under heavier load.. The sound of VTEC is very different. Even my motor changes sound passed 5000 rpm, and I can gauarantee you i don't have VTEC.

The Vtec in the 'lude is a noticeable sound and feeling, but in my car there is something but it isn't anything to write home about.

correct, after 5500 the pitch of the sound changes. I've been in an integra type R that had an AEM CAI, when you are in vtec you KNOW you are in vtec.. it roars! if any of you guys have been in a prelude or type-r/gs-r then you know sound what I'm talking about

the sound of my sohc with AEM CAI is the same pitch, though not as loud, as the type R during vtec. I'm ADDICTED to the sound, driving through tunnels becomes much more fun =)
