MY HEAT IS not working?

MY HEAT IS not working?

What could be the problem?? I am thinking it could be the thermostat!!!?

imported_ERTW 27-Sep-2005 12:22 PM

what do you mean your heat is not working? does it not blow any air? does it blow air but it is not hot? is it slightly hotter than ambient air at all?

your heater core may be plugged.

90celica 27-Sep-2005 01:20 PM

it blows air but not hot air, it is slightly warm air!

90celica 27-Sep-2005 01:34 PM

if it is the heater core shouldn't the car be losing some coolant?

the car does seem to run at normally operating temperature when warmed up!

kwikb16a2 27-Sep-2005 01:37 PM

what car? if its a civic, check the valve on the heater core hose. If it doesnt move when u change from heat to cold then thats the problem. Clogged heater core could do it. Is the engine staying at cold or does it heat up? if it heats up then thats not the problem.

90celica 27-Sep-2005 01:40 PM

the engine warms up to normal temp.

it is a 96 civic hatch

kwikb16a2 27-Sep-2005 01:40 PM

if the heater core is leaking then yes u would lose coolant, now if the heater core is clogged then no you wont loose coolant

90celica 27-Sep-2005 01:41 PM

Where is the check the valve on the heater core hose???

where is the heater core hose?

kwikb16a2 27-Sep-2005 01:41 PM

then its either got to be that valve, a clogged heater core, or broken temperature selector cable. What car is this for??????

90celica 27-Sep-2005 01:43 PM

96 civic cx hatch

90celica 27-Sep-2005 01:44 PM

At the back of the engine there will be two hoses (smaller diameter than the rad hose) one will go into the firewall ( you will see a valve with a linkage that opens and closes it). Now the one below it is a return line from the heater core, that hose should be HOT when when you have the heat on in the car. If the bottom hose is cold then there is either a clog in the heater core(which im laying odds on) or that valve isnt opening up. You use any stop leak additives in your radiator lately?

90celica 27-Sep-2005 01:58 PM

i have not used any stop leak recently..........i would suspect that may cause the heater core to be blocked.

thanks for your help

kwikb16a2 27-Sep-2005 02:26 PM

no prob

90celica 28-Sep-2005 11:13 AM

the temperature selector cable works
the hose going into the heater core is hot
the hose coming out is warm (could be just from being in the engine bay)

i am thinking that the themostat is left open.........if it is left open would HOT air come out after 30 minutes of driving?

right now only WARM air comes out!

wickedj 28-Sep-2005 01:19 PM

strange and odd

90celica 28-Sep-2005 01:21 PM

should i buy a honda thermostat or a cheap one from cdn tire?

Buy a Honda T-stat, it should come with a new gasket and retail for around $30.

kwikb16a2 28-Sep-2005 03:55 PM

if the engine is warming up to full temperature (temperature guage at the cluster) then the thermostat is doing its job. Your saying the bottom hose is jus warm??? should be hot

90celica 28-Sep-2005 03:59 PM

The hose with the switch is hot the other one is warm!

so u think the heater core is clogged

how hard is this to fix?
