My 03 Civic's a Lemon! - Battery/Some sort of power issue!

It will not start. It's not getting any power from the battery (or it may be draining the battery and it's completely dead.)

They replaced the battery 4 days ago. Yesterday morning, I get in my car to start it up, NOTHING. Even before getting into my car, I have power locks with a remote, tried to unlock the doors.. No luck. When you insert your key and your driver side door is open, you'll hear the beeping., none of that either! I had to get a boost to get the car started and took it to Formula Honda (where I'm leasing this car.) and they changed the alternator. So, I figured the problem is fixed. This morning, getting ready to go to work, press door unlock on my remote, NOTHING!!!!

This is the 5th time this has happened where I had to get a boost. It hs 61K on it. I leased it brand new from Honda in August of 03.

Does anyone have any ideas. I'm going to Formula Honda tomorrow, as it's closed today. But, I can't not go to work, because of this problem.

its still under warranty so you dont need to worry.
they will definately take care of it.

maybe something is staying on, a light or something like that.
maybe you got a bad batt. contact.

zeeman 27-Nov-2005 10:49 AM

yeah i would check to make sure that the terminals are on the battery good and tight.

nashall 27-Nov-2005 01:59 PM

I have an 03 civic bought in 02. Some parts (i.e. transmission, cylinders, fuel pump, oil pump, brearings, etc.) are still covered under the the standard 5yr (100,000km) powertrain warranty, but most common things part of the ignition/fuel/exhaust systems are only covered up to 3yr (60,000km).

So around this time, say if I needed a new battery, oxygen sensor, or new distributor, I would have to pay for them myself.

selective sound 28-Nov-2005 01:19 PM

Sounds like you have some type of drain have you installed anything aftermarket recently?

battery, oxy sensor are wear and tear items.
they dont get covered.

With newer civics, the battery gets covered to 2 years and the O2 sensor is covered to 3 yrs(or 60,000k).

oh i c.

electronblue 30-Nov-2005 12:57 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought all emission parts were covered to 130,000 km???

All emissions parts (exhaust pipes, manifold, fuel injectors, EGR, etc.) are covered only to 3yrs or 60,000km with the exception of the catalytic converter and engine control module (ECM), which are covered for 8yrs or 130,000km.

imported_Dawson 30-Nov-2005 10:49 PM

sounds like a power draw from something

habsfan9 03-Dec-2005 04:18 PM

So, here's the status report.

Car doesn't start on Wednesday, Nov 23,

Changed the battery on Wednesday, November 23rd.
Car doesn't start 3 days later (Saturday)

Changed the alternator on Saturday, November 26.
Car doesn't start next day.

Take car into Formula Honda on Monday (Closed on Sunday)
Changed the battery again on Tuesday Nov 29.
Car doesn't start today (4 days later)

I have a rental today. They have no idea what problem is. It has 61k. 2 years and 4 months old leasing from Formula Honda.

What are my options?

habsfan9 03-Dec-2005 04:20 PM

Everything is stock. No starter, no subs/amps, absolutely nothing!!!

imported_hdave 03-Dec-2005 08:05 PM

i think something is staying on or drawign power.

dont worry its under warranty, honda mechanics arent really the brightest, but they will definately take care of you since your under warranty.

habsfan9 03-Dec-2005 08:24 PM

Actually, it's technically not under warranty.

I've past 61K.. But, it's less than 3 years old. The greatest thing I've ever done was report this problem when it originally occurred back in June. Samething happened about last month.

Both times, they did an "AVR Test" and found that there's nothing wrong with battery.

It's a lease that has 20 months left. I'd like to break the lease and get something else. I don't want toe 06 civic as it's ugly IMO. If it's the only thing I can afford, obviously I have no other choice. But, it's like Formula Honda's unwilling to recognize the fact that there's something wrong. I'll be calling Honda Canada on Monday. Is there any particular department I should speak to re: Lemon car, breaking lease and getting another car that's not a lemon withotu having to pay an arm and leg for "breaking" the lease.. But, I signed the lease for 4 years under the pretense that I'll have a functioning automobile for 4 years and nto 2 years.

pwllam 03-Dec-2005 08:31 PM

Is the battery getting drained and just not providing enough power to turn the car over?

Assuming your battery/alternator/starter is fine, might be a problem with your distributor and/or spark plugs.

habsfan9 03-Dec-2005 08:40 PM

Battery is getting drained.

When I try to unlock my doors (keyless entry) - Nothing! Usually my lights flash. Nothing.

When I get in insert key in ignition and leave driver side door open (should beep telling you key is ignition.) -- nothing!

Try to crank - dead silence!

habsfan9 05-Dec-2005 10:26 AM

The car is currently sitting in Formula Honda (my dealership) and they're looking at it. They have told me that they had no idea what the problem is. I have a rental.

I don't know what to do. I have called Honda Canada Customer Relations and waiting to hear back from them.

I don't want this car. I don't know when it'll not start. I want to break my lease and get another car, but what are my options?

habsfan9 05-Dec-2005 02:24 PM

UPdatE!

I just spoke to the dealership and they said the problem was with the fusebox and it was causing some compressor to start at night which was causing the battery to drain. Does that make any sense?

imported_hdave 05-Dec-2005 02:27 PM

^ that sucks

hopefully it works out for you.

honda motor company (homo co.) is definately a b|tch compared to some other places, but hey, if u wanna own a honda u gotta deal with their crap aswell.

car tech 11-Dec-2005 08:32 PM

if ur problem is not solve yet please give me a call , maybe i can help you. 416 992 8630

1sykcoupe 12-Dec-2005 12:52 AM

do u have the honda alarm? u probably do. but with my aftermarket alarm it acts up sometimes and because of the ignition kill on the alarm it won't start up sometimes.

imported_qber 12-Dec-2005 03:04 AM

Hey this is a long shot but check your trunk courtesy light - the one that comes on when you open the trunk, maybe it's not triggering off properly and if the light stays on when the lid is closed it WILL drain the battery over night. It happened to me when I left for vacation my dad left the trunk lid down but it was ajar and I got a surprise when I returned home and battery was dead. Just close your trunk shut and pull down your rear seat and peak through and you'll know if the light turns off or not. Hope that helps!

BTW, if you're compressor turns on by itself would'nt you hear it running? It only activates when the ignition is on, in that case maybe you have related issues with your ignition as well?

imported_starboy869 12-Dec-2005 08:53 AM

I would've just hooked up a test light in series between the - neg. batt post and ground. If there was a current draw the light will be on.

If the light was on I would start pulling fuses one at a time until the light went off.

hyper_civic 21-Dec-2005 11:58 AM

check the "battery fuse" inside ur fusebox located in the engine bay.. follow the battery terminalks and u shud see where it leads to if ur having touble locating it.. .. take the cover off and check the underneath of it and ull see which fuse is for ur batter.. chances r ur fuse is fried.. if so, remove it and take a trip to Canadian tire. . their like 5$ or so. .
