is it a must?

when doing a engine swap do you have to change the transmission?

kwikb16a2 11-Nov-2004 09:50 PM

what tranny you using now and what tranny are you planning to use?

nashall 11-Nov-2004 09:56 PM

all stock right now (CX)..but when i do the swap can i keep the stock one or do i have to upgrade

shlammed 11-Nov-2004 09:57 PM

Depends...you can technically keep the same tranny, but it all comes down to WHAT SWAP?

Example...

You can have a 4th gen dx and swap in a ZC motor and use your DX tranny even though you should use at least an SI tranny for performance reasons.

OR

You can have a 4th gen and swap in a first gen b16 in which case you CAN'T use your same tranny and you MUST use any b-series CABLE tranny.

More information is required here.

i have a 95 cx....looking to go to first gen b16a swap

shlammed 11-Nov-2004 10:06 PM

if you have a 95CX you'd want to swap in a second gen b16 because you have a hydraulic tranny. The swap itself is pretty much bolt in, but yes, you will need to get a b-series hydraulic transmission with it.

nashall 11-Nov-2004 10:08 PM

k....how about a h22?

shlammed 11-Nov-2004 10:12 PM

the only swap you can do in your car without swapping the tranny is a d-series motor. For example, a 99-00 SI motor.

nashall 11-Nov-2004 10:29 PM

thanx for all the info

imported_gatherer 11-Nov-2004 11:10 PM

The transmissions mount to only certain series of engines...

D series trannies go with D series engines

B with B

and K with K

shlammed 11-Nov-2004 11:14 PM

Technically, you can make adapter plates for them, but you're in way over your head if you go that route.

imported_loudsubz 11-Nov-2004 11:38 PM

yes yes you can like shlammed mentioned

one person makes an adapter plater for h22 engines to run a b series tranny that i know of

shlammed 12-Nov-2004 12:06 AM

I know of an adapter plate being made for a type-r tranny to fit a d16y8 :D
