Muffler question, with pic :)

Okay so,

I have 2 civics. One, let's call her, green civic, doesnt run. The other, lets call her whitey, runs liek a charm but now has a large hole in the exhaust and is very loud.

Now, when green civic ran, the exhaust sounded fine, so I assumed the muffler was all good. Since green cvici doesnt run I was just going to take the muffler off it, and put it on whitey.

But today it was nice so I took it off, and it seems to have a few tiny holes, but it's 10 times better shape than whitey's muffler.

So, judging by the pic, do you think I would be ok if I just got the repair kit from Canadian tire and jsut patched up the tiny holes it has and put it on whitey, or should I stop being a jew and just buy a brand new one ?

Thanks

I would just buy a used new one. The time and money it would take to patch those holes insn't worth it in my opinion when you can get a used stock muffler for $40

Where can I buy a used stock muffler for 40 ?

imported_janz3n 28-Mar-2007 06:39 PM

Lots of people sell there stock mufflers cheap because they go aftermarket. I picked up a full SIR exhaust with muffler for pretty cheap on the forums and it was in great condition no leaks or holes.

Ok so a couple more questions..

1) Is it okay for me to just unbolt mine and bolt the other one on ? Or do I have to put some sealant in so that I don't get an exhaust leak or something?

2) Should I reset the ECU or something after I install it since I was probalby running rich with the big hole in my exhaust or should I not worry about it ?

bbarbulo 31-Mar-2007 12:29 AM

honda exhaust flanges don't require any sealant

you can reset the ECU, but no, you don't have to, it should know based on the O2 sensor, that's what it's there for.

Thanks bbarbulo!

Uhh one last thing (i swear :) ) will the muffler off a coupe or hatch fit my sedan? I'm hoping that all the mufflers are the same just the piping before them is different but I want to make sure.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for hte help I got a used one off someone here and just bolted it on and she's nice and quiet now :)

bbarbulo 01-Apr-2007 03:49 PM

yes sedan and coupe mufflers are the same, hatch mufflers are shorter. sorry for the useless late reply, but maybe it'll help someone who searches....

I got a stock muffler off a 98 si coupe. Not sure if it will bolt right up but an exhaust shop will make it work for sure.. $20.

Btw its chris _si98 (i think you have me on msn, if interested msg me)
