Exclamation Motor Swap

Can anyone tell me if an '89 Si motor will work with a '88 Special Edition (dx?) tranny? What about drive shafts? Thanks in advance.

yes yes and maybe (prolly yes as well)

Cynikal will know

just gotta do the DPFI to MPFI wiring conversion and you need the Si ECU. You can run DPFI if you swap your manifold, but that's ghey.

but ya you dont' ahve to worry about axles if yoru usign yoru stock tranny..jsut keep what's there...and yes it will bolt up...get a new clutch...you need to buy the clutch for what ever fly wheel your using...so if yoru using the si flywheel then get a 89 si clutch..and vis versa for the dx fly..

well the special edition is already mpfi last i checked just a 1.5 instead of the Si 1.6 and instead of the Si tranny its the DX one...no biggy there...just swap in the motor using the same tranny, axles, clutch kit etc.

and if the car isnt mpfi then it really isnt a SE DX hatch...u can tell if its a true SE if the mouldings were factory painted and the mpfi...so yea

you shouldnt have a problem bud

I'm pretty sure that the car is an SE, but it doesn't have mpfi (it's an '88, if that makes a difference).

So if I use my stoxk DX tranny, I can re-use my stock DX axles?

I didn't understand the clutch part: if I use the DX tranny with the Si motor, will I have to buy an Si clutch? Are the DX and Si flywheels interchangable?

As for the wiring of the mpfi, I have the entire car including Si ecu and wiring harness ... does it make it any easier if I just swap in the enitre harness or should I just modify my stock DX one?

On a side note, can anyone tell me what rpm's you turn with the Si tranny?
At 100km/h in 5th:
At 120km/h in 5th:
At 140km/h in 5th:

Thanks guys, all your help is appreciated!

Alright guys, the swap is getting closer and I need some more help please. Checking the rpm's on my DX tranny over the last week or two has shown that it revs extremely close to an Si tranny ... it could have been replaced at some time in it's life before me? Is there anyway that I could check if it's a DX or Si tranny?

I am planning on using my stock DX (or is it an Si) tranny with the Si motor ... I have a couple of questions:

1. Are DX and Si clutches interchangable ... what about the flywheels?

2. Is there any difference, in terms of wiring, between my stock DX tranny and the Si ... will I have a problem if I use the Si harness?

3.Are radiators interchangable between an '88 DX and an '89 Si?

4. Can anyone who has done this swap or is knowledgable on the subject offer me any tips/advice? (I am a newb, you know)

Thanks everyone, your help is appreciated.

ahhh well the splines on the 88 si trannya re different I beleive...throw your clutch disc on the input shaft first to check if it isn't the right clutch them send her back...dont' use the si harness jsut mod your dx harness for the MPFI conversion...rads will be the same in the dx and si...if you use the si motor and dx tranny throw the dx fly wheel on and use a dx clutch jsut to make sure everything is good to go.....if your a newb then look on the DPFI to MPFI converstion on the net there are step by step guides out there
