Motor revs higher when its really hot outside?

hey i dont think this is normal but my motor seems to rev to about 2500 rpm on a hot day or even just under 3000 rpms ... and it stays there till i rev it higher and it will slightl come back down to normal... and it would gets back up there when i get going again... happens in traffic all the time... its a y8... did a coolant flush about a month ago hoping that would solve the problem but its still the same...

anybody have any ideas?

imported_Zyepher 16-Jul-2006 06:27 PM

nope, but my vtec scccccccreams when its hot outside

either didn't do the coolant flush correctly, or you have a vacuum leak, or your FITV has gone bad, or your IACV is sticking and needs cleaning.

I was having this problem too... It turned out to be my throttle cable sticking. next time this happens see if you can bring the revs back down when your idling high by sticking your foot a little under the gas pedal and lifting up

imported_Sohc97 18-Jul-2006 10:38 PM

have you ever managed to get it freed up with some lube or something? or do you always have to stick your feet under it all the time... but ill give it a go...

imported_Moe_Mentum 20-Jul-2006 09:04 AM

Yeah of course I just freed it up with a bit of lube and adjusted my throttle cable so it wasn't so tight. I only used that method to diagnose the problem. Any luck?

My beater does that when the car gets really warm. Say if i drove it from Hamilton to Toronto when i got down town it would idle up and down. But, if you let the car cool off it would idle fine. Unfortunately i have no clue what the problem is, and little interest in fixing it as i only drive that car a week or two a year when im in Ontario...

I had the same problem. the next time your car does this try pinching the PCV valve hose and see if this corrects the problem. If so try a new PCV valve.

damn still the same thing... and yeah it only does it when its warm outside... happens after about half an hour of driving on the highway and it will start revving up there when im caught in traffic

where is the PCV valve hose located on a y8?

imported_Moe_Mentum 23-Jul-2006 10:30 PM

the sticky gas pedal method didn't do any good?

take the thermostat out

imported_Sohc97 24-Jul-2006 07:43 PM

does the sticky gas padel usually work? or does it work for most of the people on here?

imported_Sohc97 07-Aug-2006 12:01 PM

k i swapped the pcv valve and it seemed to have solved the problem... it doesnt rev as high but it still does occasionally... but not something im too worried about cuz it stays under 2000 rpm and then drops back down after a few seconds... but now my car seems to overheat every now and then... i gotta put the heater on full blast to keep the temp guage where it is normally... should i do another coolant flush or soemthing?

xplicit r34 07-Aug-2006 06:18 PM

coolant flush, and take the thermostat out permanently
