Mr. Death

I'm trying to determine is my starter is shot. I looked in the Haynes manual and it says to hook a wire up to the small terminal on the solenoid ( starter solenoid I hope) and the Positive terminal on the battery. O.k.... on the starter there are 2 terminals, the larger terminal which connects directly to the battery and a smaller terminal which connects to a wiring harness. I've hooked up a wire from the battery (positive terminal) to the larger terminal on the starter (one that goes to the battery)and nothing is happening. I turn the key w/clutch engaged as usual....nothing. I must be missing something cause I picked another starter last night and I can't seem to got it to turn either. maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. anyone?

main relays are notorious for goin bad so it could be that if you cant get any juice to the starter at all
