More Horsepower? Or just a new engine?

I just bought a 94 si coupe with V-tec and I want to know what I can do to get more horsepower, but not having to spend a whole lot of money. I'm still rocking the SOHC engine, but what can I do to really see a difference in the cars power and speed? PLEASE HELP A BROTHA OUT!

well for the 1000th time..... how much money do you want to spend?

imported_Fug 28-Mar-2005 01:28 AM

u could put some ghey intake....headers...exhaust like everyone else and expect a MASSIVE 10 hp gain...lol...or u could be a man about it and rock either a turbo setup or if ur looking to go even cheaper for a starter speed booster just go nitrous....

cough cough it's a VTEC not a V-tec

o ya, i have the D16Z6, those engines are already old i'm going for a B series swap, you should do the same

but as for your question get a Turbo

95CivicDxCoupe 28-Mar-2005 02:47 AM

how much money you got to play with.
what do you plan on using your car for.
do you want an N/A, SC, Turbo, Nawz with Urine (Copright Zyepher).

The more info you can provide to people the easier it will be to answer and you will get a quicker reply

I'm willing to spend about $1500, but I was told to just save my money and just swap the **** for another engine. (oh yeah, your right VTEC! lol)

imported_Fug 28-Mar-2005 11:34 PM

just save up another few thousand and get urself a nice GSR engine or something...those are always fun, or just get a cheap Integra LS engine and work on that, they are really cheap to buy, but they are capable of sooo much HP...

FlashCheetah 28-Mar-2005 11:51 PM

that's what I need to know! I see you guys always writing about b16's and stuff, I don't know what kind of engine mine is. I just tell people an SOHC VTEC Engine, 127hp. If I were to swap it, what would be the best swap, without reaching into my pocket to deep?

Nova_Dust 29-Mar-2005 12:19 AM

Home made turbo + tuning. Done.

A stock B series won't be your final answer. If so, people wouldn't be swapping out B series for K. You need to know what you have (obviously you do) and work with what you have, not tossing away what you got.

But for 1500, I suggest you save at least 3 times of that amount then you can really make your car go fast. Not crazy fast, but definitely faster than where you are now.

Making a car go faster and also want to save money at the same don't go together. You have got to pay to play, and HP don't come cheap. Even purchased used, quality parts still don't come cheap.

FlashCheetah 29-Mar-2005 12:23 AM

yeah your right, I honestly would be happy with like 170 -190 hp in my car, but I don't think a bunch a bolt-ons is gonna do the job.

Nova_Dust 29-Mar-2005 12:31 AM

For a street car, you just don't have the room to use all that power. Yes you can floor it on the highway, in a straight line, on a sunny day, but so what? You can't keep up with that speed with more than 30 seconds because high speed driving is mind bombing and most people just can't handle that speed. Plus, you will always worry about police.

M5 is a fast car, but you won't see if flying down the street all the time. A lot of fast cars, factory or modified, only go fast in a straight line. Straight line, to me, is boring as hell. I rather spend 5000 dollars and make a D16 equipped car handles like a charm at corners than spending 5000 dollars to make the same car that can only go fast in a straight line but always get caught up by a bone stock D16 at the corner.

FlashCheetah 29-Mar-2005 12:37 AM

Your definitely talking the truth man! It's gonna cost me a sh%t load of money anyways to really hit those hp numbers with a SOHC engine. I really need to work on my suspension too. Good looking out for a Brotha! thanks

Nova_Dust 29-Mar-2005 12:49 AM

I have spent some money on the car, and it is all suspension related, and really good engine oil and transmission oil to make the stock D16 perform at its full potential, well, just try to make it better at its original form.

This summer, in a couple weeks, all the suspension theory and hard work shall be put to test.

Once you take it to the track, engine HP (well, for a track newb and starter) is completely futile. Suspension + driving skill will own you, big time.

Great post. I totally agree with you about making the car handle better. IMO, that's where all the fun is at. I'm in the process of piecing together different suspension bits for my car. That'll have me grinning from ear to ear.

Of course, I'd be a total hypocrite if I said I didn't want more power. I just bought an LSD, fer crissakes... it would just be waste to slap it on my car as is :D

Dr.K 29-Mar-2005 02:37 AM

B16's have decent power for the money. Swap one of those in and Then concentrate on the Suspension as mentioned before. B engine's are cheap to modify though once its in.
