Monster tach

I bought an Autometer monster tach 5 months ago and the lightbulb has already blown. I tried taking out the bulb yesterday with a small screwdriver (and I did it gently) and it put marks and dents into the tach. The thing is made out of playdough!!!:working: What a crappy investment!!!

What model tach did you buy? I have the 5" Sport Comp #3911 and you don't need a screwdriver to remove the bulb.

Are you replacing the tach bulb or shift light bulb?

I have the same model. I know you don't need a screwdriver but it wouldn't come out, so I tried to gently pry it open with it. I know I f'd up but what can I do now? The tach is already damaged, I could send it back to Autometer under warranty but I don't want to bother with the time and costs. I'm just gonna drive around with a busted up tach.

Well I don't think the tach bulb should have blown within 5 months, especially that it's only on at night. I could bitch and say that it was defected and get it repaired, but it's not worth it. I emailed them and they said that I have to pay all the shipping costs.

I've had to change bulbs in the tach 2 or 3 times now and each time I use a pair of pliers to turn the bulb since it fits in snug.

I always purchase them at Performance Improvements, you should be able to find them other places though. If you need some help removing the bulb let me know I can show you threw pics. Just give me a P.M.

I pretty sure the black piece your worried about is the bulb. Hopefully these pics work to give you an idea.
