hub quick release. There are a few companies that make this part now and it allows you to "quick release" an aftermarket steering wheel and completely remove the wheel

Do u have to have a special hub and steering wheel for that or does it just attach to u regular hub? And also what is the reason for having it - prevent theft?

Any aftermarket (non-air bag) steering wheel will connect to it I believe and there is atleast 4 or 5 companies making universal quick hub releases now. Omni, Momo, Sparco, NRG, etc

Doubt it, but Momo's may be specific for Momo wheels, donno about that.

The original purpose was in racing, to get the damn wheel out of the way and get the hell out of the car in case of fire, etc. as you still see on F1, CART, even turn of the century NASCAR

now it can be used as a theft deterrent since its harder to steel a car with no wheel.
