Mini me swap question!!!

I'm in the middle of doing a mini me swap on my 97 civic. I'm putting on a 99 d16y8 head and the old distributor doesn't line up anymore. I bought a vtec distributor from ebay from a 96-98 ex vtec engine but for some reason it doesn't fit.

1. do I need a 99 vtec distributor?
2. are there any after market distributor such as msd that's a better option.

please bear with me since i'm new at this. if any of these questions have been covered before I'm sorry about being redundant.

well you could buy a 99 sohc vtec distributor but they aren't cheap.
Or you can use your stock one and chop one of the legs off. I've seen dizzy's work with only one bolt holding them on. Now i am not recommending only using one bolt but it will work.
