Mini-Me question

Another stupid mini me question.
sorry LOL.

basically i want to mate a y7 bottom to a y8 top.
i heard that the y7 doesnt have a knock sensor so vtec wont work unless i manually wire it to the tach and use a button or whatever to activate the vtec.

can someone shed some light on this? any ways of making this swap actually be proper?

I think you're better asking in Honda Tech.

You can disable the knock in crome.. if u have an obd1 running a p2p map( y8 )

lol jay. you can source a knock sensor from any honda and bolt it into the back of the block under the intake mani and above (and to the left) of the oil filter. it's hard to see, but easier if you have the oil filter off (if you are working on it from underneith the car). then since you say the car is vtec ready with wiring, it should plug right in!!

voila!!

How about converting to OBD1 with Chrome. What ever you do, do not use a switch to engage V-tec, as the timing maps and fuel maps will not be correct. Chrome will also give you the ability to tune your vehicle. This will be a benifit considering it will be a frankenstein motor.

Good luck with your swap

dave.. he's just doing this to get the car running. he's not doing it for power, he wants to go the cheapest route.

Jay, yes the plugs and wires will be the same. And if you need a knock sensor I have one lying around and I can look for the clip you'll need to splice into your harness if you want.

if this is for your 91 car, then no, it's NOT related to this thread. furthermore, jay is actually DOING this... not thinking about do it. so while you're thinking about it... go and do some research first, then when you're actually DOING it, then come and post here fore help. don't expect us to do your research for you or spoonfeed you information.

the frustration comes and goes over several months. i see the same stupid questions week in and week out, and 3/4 of the time the advice given here isn't even used cuz the ppl asking advice don't have the basic foundations to use it.

if only ppl get under their car once or twice and took a look, things would be so much clearer and we'd avoid 97% of stupid questions.

or if people started reading a damn service manual/shop manual. there is no question in the world that can't be answered using the factory service manual!

when i get really annoyed, I take a few months off from the P&S forum and just visit here to do my mod duties.
