might be a dumb question...about suspension
 

hey guys
just wondering exactly what is meant when someone is talkign about upgrading suspension before an engine swap... you know, the standard answer i always see about upgrading brakes and suspension beforehand...
im already looking at a rear brake conversion, but what should i be doing abuot suspension?? i mean i have eibach sportlines...but i know those arent much. what else exactly, just upgrade all the parts?? like control arms??

im just looking for some suggestions, i can look up al the info...buit where to start hehe

Springs, shocks, replace any worn/damaged bushings, upgrade tires, lighter wheels. There is no sense adding more power if it is not being transfered to the ground through worn-out, soft suspension.

A brake upgrade will help you slow down better too. Do a search, there is lots of info out there.

i really dont think an upgrade on bigger brakes is much necessary

IMO... if you arent going over 200mph and need to stop on a dime, then i think a Big Brake kit is pointless!

if you do springs, the right thing to do is Shocks??
why u probably wondering.... first off, lets get the whole deal done right, instead of redoing them 2 times around... make sense right.... since its winter... you dont need them... so save ur money and buy it in spring

Thanks for the replies. I probably should have mentioned that the springs were on the car when i bought it. He gave me the stock ones in the eibach box, it just says its the lowering kit...step 1. So, whenever I read about people dropping a B or better engine into anything had a D or less, they always mention to upgrade brakes and suspension, which I understand. I'm just wondering what things to look for when trying to upgrade and I'll go look it up, so far I don't really have a list.

I've been learning about brakes, just don't even know what to look for when trying to upgrade the suspension.

I wasn't going looking to get a big brake kit(i don't think) just a gsr set or even some from an SIR for the rear on my SI. I've seen them for between 150-300 and that's not bad. http://www.passwordjdm.com/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=256, I know these are missing some pieces, and I'll probably need an SIR master cylinder and proportioning valve right?

IMO rear disk swaps aren't worth the trouble/money. For how much % the rear does drums work just fine. If you wanna upgrade the fronts just get the SI/EX coupe or GSR front spindles and sway bar. Grab some GSR rear LCA's and rear sway bar or any aftermarket sway bars (i have and like suspension techniques sway bars).
I would say to do the suspension first b/c once you start making you car go faster it will never end and you won't want to spend the money on suspension/brakes. Trust me, i didn't, thats exactly why i did my suspension before the swap.

Keep the drums, rear discs are a pain and they are expensive to maintain and have a minimal benefit. Upgrade your pads but make sure your rotors still have life, lines, calipers are stil good yada yada.

Upgrade sway bars is always a good bet but not those $10 upper sway bar e-bay specials.

Basically the message everyone tries to get across is to make sure everything is in good shaep before you swap your motor. Check your suspension, balljoints, control arms, tie rods and make sure your breaks and in good shape.
