mech messed things up..need help

mech messed things up..need help

hey guyz...ok first off i went to this private mech to get the header gasket replaced and the valve rubber surround replaced...everything was goin fine until SNAP!!! he broke one of the screws on the valve cover...its s D16y7 the nut closet to the belt he broke that...now half is in the head and is broken in half...secondly i just discovered that i removed the heat shield off the headers and guess what....my header has a crack in it...from the O2 hole all the way around...dont know how long thas been there...ok so now i need help...how do i remove and replace that broken screw cuz the mech doesnt wanna touch it....i will take care of him later!.. and wha shud i do abt the crack in the header..also is the broke nut gonna effect anything while driving..this is messed.

well you have to remove the valve cover and look. if you can grab part of the broken stud with vise grip pliers, then go for it and pull it out. otherwise, drill it out and use an EZ-out.

buy a replacement from the dealer and put it back in

as for the header, I'd get a OEM Y8 header if I were you.

or get a Vibrant header, I hear they are good for the price.

i doubt the mech screwed the manifold, most do crack on there own

i cant grab a hold of them...and i am scared to drill it...wha if i mess it more...ok how do i drill this...get a bit smaller than the screw and drill in the center??
i obviously have to cover the head so no shavins go inside right...how do i do that..whas the best way.

abt the header...the header is connected to teh CAT makin it on hugh piece...wha options do i have.

you have to drill it, there is no other choice

a kit with EZ-outs from Sears will come with heads and a drill bit. you make sure you centerpunch the stud well, then use the provided drill bit to drill it. then use the EZ-out head and it'll grab the hole you drilled and pull the stud out.

to make sure no shavings go into the head, just take an old shirt and cut a small hole in it just enough to fit over the stud. soak that part of the shirt in some oil so that metal shavings stick to it. if any shavings do get into the engine, just use a small magnet to grab them.

you can have the header welded up but it's no guarantee that it won't crack again.
