Map sensor for swap
I will be doing a swap here pretty soon and I am unsure about something, any help would be much appreciated.
Car-'98 civic dx Swap motor-B16a sir II My question concerns the map sensor- Is the map senor for the b16a mounted on the throttle body? I have heard some comments that if you use the DX map sensor that the b16a will run wicked rich. Is this true or do I need to get a different map senor and where exactly does it go. Cheers. |
doubt that... MAP sensor references manifold vacuum into voltage... since both are meant for normal aspiration (1bar atmosphere pressure) they should both read the same way.
anyone else have thoughts on this?? cuz I'm NOT CERTAIN |
well it depends on what year b16a. I beleive up to and including 93 used an externally mounted MAP with a vacuum line running from the MAP to the throttle body. 94+ has the MAP right on the t/b.

when i did a swap on my 92 hatch, the map sensor was on the old engine, then when i put the new motor on, it was meant for a civic with the map sensor mounted on the frame, so therefore, i had no map sensor. Ran like crap :( and i got bad gas mileage so i was forced to switch back to my old motor.

kieran would it not have made more sense to swap the throttle body or just ZIP tie a map sensor to the firewal LOL

Thanks for the great info so far.
I was wondering if it is possible to switch the throttle bodies over from my d16y7 to the b16a? As Far as the year of the B16a, all I know is that it is 92-95. I took another look at the throttle body on the b16a and didn't see any screw holes on the upper side of the throttle body so I'm presuming that the sensor was probably mounted on the firewall |
well look on the head. Specifically the exhaust side.

why would you want to put the y7 t/b on your b16? The b16 is larger. It should have a nipple on top for a vacuum line to go to the MAP sensor.

I wasn't sure if there was a size difference between the two and I thought since the d16 TB had the map sensor mounted on it already that it would make the swap look cleaner. Thanks for letting me know.
The nipple should be fairly small in size, right? I see a rather small vacuum hose coming out where the sensor would have been mounted on the TB. Checked the engine again, it's a "92. I should be able to figure this out know, Thanks again everyone for the awesome help. Cheers |
Yep. I am pointing to where the vacuum line goes on the t/b and circled in red is where i zip-tied the MAP sensor to the brake lines on the firewall.
