Maintenance Before/After Winter ???

Hey guys,

Im putting my car away for the winter, is it best do all the maintenace, oil change, tranny, brake, coolant, etc. before I put the car away, OR do it as soon as I take the car out in the spring time.

I think its better to do it in the spring, but you guys let me know what you think ...

put your car on jack stands so you wont seeze up your suspension or do any damage to it.

make sure to park it with as full of a tank of gas as possible.
If you have very little gas in the tank, the vapours can actually cause your tank to start rusting from the inside out.
Oh and take the battery out and store it somewhere warm (like inside ur house).

Gasoline Stabilizer in the tank, and Engine Fogging Oil will be helpful.

As far as your fluids are concerned, I am in favour of changing them before storage, then you're good to go in the spring, and I don't like the idea of storing machinery with dirty fluids. That's just my opinion.

You might be right, but I have had to rebuild too many carburetors in my lawnmowers, etc, because of leaving untreated fuel in the machine over the winter.

I figure it would gum up things in my car, so would use it for extra safety.

If I change all my fluids before storage, wont everything just absorb moisture and therefore, all the fluids wont be a good as if I changed them in the spring?

Just thinking out loud here, but wouldn't it be better for the new oil to absorb a bit of moisture, while still protecting the engine surfaces, and burn off all the moisture when you run it in the spring? ... or is it better for the oil, which is already contaminated with crap to sit in the engine .... ??

Maybe an engine guru has an opinion. I think it's probably just splitting hairs????

do you guys notice any difference when you change all your fluids (coolant, brake, clutch, tranny)? Do you notice your car running better or no ?
