Made the switch to synthetic :D
I finally decided to make the switch to synthetic oil. For a 4.4 L jug of mobil 1 5w30 and a fram double guard for just over $30. Now my question is how long should i keep it in there?, ive read some places that it can be run for 10 000kms but that seems a bit too long. And how bout the filter? I drive somewhat hard if that helps. Thanks

I'd say 7000km on a regular non extreme usage basis...basically double conventional oil...but since this is the first change with synthetic I'd change it at the regular 3000km just cuz its mixed with some older conventional oil and guck...then after that do it up every 7000km
thats how I'd do it
thats how I'd do it

DOHC VTEC = Synethic Oil (Good choice)
Pending on how you drive etc...5-6000kms is good(Oil and Filter change), but more sure you check your oil every gas fill up. Less oil from max. will not give enough pressure for VTEC power..hehe..

man I hate when peoepl say "oh synthetic twice the milage"...man change it every 3000 km's if nto sooner..it is still oil it isnt' some miricle fluid...and it's mobile1 it's nto liek it's really even a real good oil...every 3000 km's if nto sooner..I come from maintaining race 2 storkes where you chang everythign every ride no matter how "clean" it is...use such expensive synthetic oil that you guy's woudl **** and chagne pistons every 10 hours...I woudl want the best for my motor havign fresh good oil threw it at all times...and if the oil looks dirty chang ethe **** even if it's 1000 km's...oh and use a better filter fram is crap...they have very littel filter paper and hvae crappy desing...get a purolater at the least
you dont' switch to syn to save money guy's..you switch to provide better protection nto to extend oil changes...get a real oil...liek motul

i use Motul! and i'm running a turbo on an Si! i change it every 6000km in the summer (or until i have to go to the track) and 10000 in the winter! and i use 300V 5w40 in the summer and 8100x-cess 5w40 in winter! it's the best oil man! use it with the Motul engine clean b4 oil change and also use the fuel cleaner! it's a difference between pass and fail on the emission test!
btw, there's 2 standards in motor oil, the API (American Petroleum Institute) and ACEA (Association des Construsteurs Europeens D'Automobile) API goes with the lowest denominator which mean 1 oil for most cars! but as most of u know, different engines need different oil! it's like a "one size fit all" thing! the difference between API and ACEA is petro companies don't really care about your cars, as long as the oil 'meet' the standards, it's alright! they want u to change more oil! but with ACEA standards this association is consists of the professional body representing the interests of thirteen European car, truck and bus manufacturers. which says a lot because manufacturers KNOWS what their engines need! and ACEA always EXCEEDS the requirment of the manufacturer to go ahead of the trend!
Approved ACEA spec synthic oil like Motul really does make ur engine run longer and let u leave oil in ur engine for longer too!

I woudlnt' wait that long to change the oil..6000 km;s even with 300V...I use to run gp 800 in my race bike...and man that stuff was amazing, no carbon at all..unreal protection..it had protection of castor oil without the gum carbon...I will vouch for motul anyday of the week..

i use OEM honda filter only! but i change oil filter 5000km approx.
as for the 300V it's not meant to last long in a motor, since it's a race oil! but the 6100/8100 motul u can leave it in the motor for a longer time!

ya race oils dotn' have alto of the things that make it mroe stable and detergents that make the wear characteristics go down they are for pure performance I guess you could say..motul is the only naem I trust from experience in high end race oils...I dotn' knwo abotu royal purple and red line..I've heard redline is amazing yada yada but I have never used it..the 2 stroke oil is suppose to be great but I have never used it...if a company can make a 2 stroek oil that is amazing then I'd trust them with any motor..motul get's my vote
