LW flywheel with turbo Q?
 

so i heard a light weight flywheel is bad for a turbo engine... i duno why tho can sum1 explain this to me?

my flywheel is 7.5 lbs and ill be running 6-7 lbs of boost only...

light weight flywheels aren't bad for boost.

Light weight flywheels are bad for oil pumps and crank/bearings (supposedly) combined with a heavy clutch (which is usually needed on boosted high WHP setups) will/can cause more abuse on the oil pump and crank/bearings. Apparently, this is b/c the flywheel has less mass, so more of the shock of the clutch engaging is transferred onto the crankshaft (since thats where the flywheel bolts to), which in term adds stress on the oil pump (which is connected to/driven by the crankshaft). The heavier the clutch, the worse this is.
I've tuned many of turbo cars with lightweight flywheels and it doesn't cause any problems.
I'll be using a fidanza 10lbs flywheel with a stage 3 clutch on my turbo daily driver.

ACT xtreme clutch kit, with 7.5lb ACT prolite flywheel here. 10lbs of boost so far. no probs *knock on wood*

9lbs flywheel made 330whp/259tq last year and this year only runing 5lbs on my sc61 and no problems (except that my clutch cant handle the rest of my setup)

i'd honestly stick with a heavier flywheel. with the added tq of f.i., plus the increased inertia of using a heavier flywheel, will aid in launching/dd. i'm swapping out my Toda for an itr (14lbs vs 9lbs) for my turbo project. this is one of the first things i planned on doing from years ago. **** blipping throttle to get off the line with 300whp & 2xxwtq......i find it unecessary and annoying with 200whp all motor

Any recommendations on a clutch for a boosted D-series?? I was told a stage 1 should be sufficient.

get one that's rated for the power you're planning on making..

7.5 lb flywheel over here on a boosted d for 3 years no probs at all. As for a clutch go to eurodrive in Burlington and have a custom job made for your application. The price and quality is top notch.
