LSD Options

Whats LSDs are avaliable for the S1 (90-91(93?) LS/GS) tranny?

I know quaife, phony-grip, etc.

Can I use one from a 94-01 Teg?

Thanks

do you say "lsd" because the oem ones are not true lsds?

I consider Quaife to be a true LSD... it's very much similar to the OEM, but a lot stronger. Actually, I would not go for anything other than a Quaife in the aftermarket. The other ones like Cusco and Kaaz are clutch type LSDs, so they have a limited service life and require breaking in as well as friction modifiers in the tranny oil. Phantom-Grip, and any knockoff thereof work, but is bad for the tranny... very bad. It's also not an real LSD. More like a light switch... on/off.

Anything other than a Phantom Grip will require reshimming the tranny case... that is, removing all the guts from the tranny and rebuilding peice by peice.

I dunno about all B series fits... cuz Quaife lists an application for the LS and then the GSR separately. just something to look into.

BTW, in order of price, it goes Phantom, used OEM, then Quaife, then the rest of them. The quaife is only $800 USD.

Install is killa though.

Jason, Quaife or JDM D15 LSD tranny for you. If staying N/A d-series, go with the OEM LSD tranny. If turbo over 200 whp, then a Quaife.

the $300 - $400 for an OEM one is a big difference from the $800+ for a quaife.

I guess the big concern is finding out if any of the OEM ones will fit my tranny....

Not all B-series LSD's will fit in all B-series trannies.

PERIOD

For example, you can not get a CTR LSD into a B16a tranny without changing out the ring gear.
