Lsd Install - Urgent
Ok, who has ACTUALLY done an LSD install in a B-series tranny, preferrably a Quaife (helical-style) LSD. Or any Quaife for that matter. Or even if you know of a web-page that has instructions, cause my searches have turned up nothing. Please, this is of the essence...I need to know the process since I will be doing the install myself, and if I have to re-shim the tranny, I need to go out and buy all the right tools for the job. Thanks in advance

Thanks ryuujin!
ROB THE BRUCE, that's a wicked link!! That should help, I'm gonna book mark it. Luckily, I have all the manuals handly, but I may pick up a Factory Service Manual too just in case. I will do a full write up w/ pics of the install for you guys. Thanks for the help!

Thanks guys! I am in fact getting the Honda OEM Type R lsd for about $700USD (I love Honda OEM parts fit and finish). It is very similar in design to the Quaife, and I figured it would be easier to find an install on the Quaife than any other LSD. It seems pretty straight forward. It's going to be going into an LS engine/tranny for either a turbo application or if I change my mind, then VTEC. I know the OEM LSD is good for 200hp, but I will be making closer to 300 with the turbo, so any comments on longevity. I will be using the newer bigger ball bearing so I don't have to worry about preloading it, or if that's not robust for my application, I will do the whole shimming up thing and preload the taper roller bearing. Thanks again for all your help!

If you are using a EK Helical you are going to have to change your main gear and input shaft in order for it to work. You will have to use either type-r or gsr as the b16/ls diff is smaller.
It may just be easier to get quaife.

Oh snap!! Good lookin out homie! So if I were to buy an LS tranny, that would be a throw away item...since it's not really worth much resale privately. But then, if I get a GSR tranny, I would also need the GSR axles, no? I already have SiR brakes/susp all around...are the axles gonna fit?

I like Honda OEM parts, but it looks like I'm gonna have to do the Quaife thing. Or ITR LSD tranny all together than rather than just the LSD unit. Yeah, honda-tech.com is a really good website, it's much more technical that the civic boards...but I have fun at civic boards

if i were you i'd just get the whole tranny....its quicker and easier and there is no figuring out. Just pull your tranny and put in the new one, and your done.
I've heard that itr tranny's go for about $1800+tax new from acura dealers but I have nothing to support that. But I think you can get a used/rebuilt one for $1500 flat. I'm talking canadian funds here not US.

if hes going turbo and hes aiming to make about 300 horse with the turbo hes better off with the ls gears. and if there realy is a $100 US difference you'll be better off with the Quaife/Kaaz LSD. they can handle more power and will be able to pull you out of the hole quicker and hold the pressures of turbo better.

OK boys LS/Quaife it is. I heard to stay away from KAAZ, no reason was given. I'd do Cusco or Quaife........Quaife for sure since they are easier to come by and have much better custmer service.

mmmm.nice.
FYI - most guys stay away from Kaaz because they are clutch type. Therefore, they equire a very precise breakin, regular maint. and at some time in the future the plates will need to be replaced at great expense.
This obviously differs from quaife: no breakin, no special maint, no replacing parts...ever (well unless it breaks but then Quaife foots the bill)
