LS vtec build

LS vtec build
Hey, I'm looking at building an Ls vtec on my 94 teg. I'll be doing the work myself, but I'd like to get some feedback on what people think about the motor afterwards? Better off to use a b16 or gsr head? should I use gsr head studs also instead of b16?

This belongs in the perf. section..
anyways, get which ever head you can get cheaper, there's a bunch of arguements about which head flows better/creates the most power, but IMO if you can get the b16a2 head cheaper than the b18c1, so i'd say b16a2.
You'll need ls head studs.. the gsr head studs are too skinny. You'll also need to machine the dowell pin openings in the head. Somebody once told me you have to relocate them or you should relocate them.. but I totally forget what he said.. I'm sure someone will shine some light on that point.
My bro-in-law built an lsvtec motor (b16a2 head, b18c5 tranny, P&P, fully built) ran 185whp and 145 ft lbs of tq. Wasn't bad.. but cost a lot of money for all the engine work that needed to be done.

you need the gsr head studs. a gsr head will be better if you can find one, you will have higher compression. imo get a gsr and be happy, ls/vtec i have never liked. too much money and the power isnt all that great.

guess I was mis-leaded..

B16 head is essentially an ITR head without the polishing, cams,, etc...it flows better. There are other ways to raise compression then the head, i say get a better flowing head(b16) and get some higher compression pistons.

the gsr manifold isnt that bad. now that i have been dwelling on it, id get a gsr engine and some ctr cams, thats a nice set up and cheaper then a type r with and the same power if not more. much better than any ls/vtec setup (in stock form)
