Ls swap for my hatch?
I was thinking about doing an engine swap for my hatch. (or so i was told) that i would do an LS b18b - vtec swap, this way i can do it in stages. I would first buy a complete ls setup, and install it in my car. They change the head and computer to include Vtec.. I hear they perform well. Then Swap out the stock Ls tranny for something a little better.. (i hear that i would need to convert my hydralic clutch setup to a cable setup...
Does anyone have a similar install and or tips or pointers - common problems? Please help me out - Thanks Joe |
you wont need to swap the clutch the cable... just buy an ls motor made 94 and up...

and its not as easy as dropping on the vtec head, gotta do some mods to the block for oil lines etc, and make sure its done right, theres some swaps that have been done and the engine blows a week later because it wasn't done right.
Scott in milton did his and he did amazing work and did it right from the start. |

there is lots of stuff you gotta do... like new pistons with valve dashes in them cause the valves on a dohc vtec head come down further (or open more) then the ls head....
although when done properly it can be a strong motor |
jsut get a b18c with a gsr lsd tranny and save your money...changing otu all the parts plsu machine work will cost alot ..plus with a b18c you will get reliability
|
you can put a vtec head on any bseries,
its works ok, but the motor will not last long reving a stock ls to 8k, btw, its the valve "reliefs" and the extra oiling capabilities of the vtec (b16/gsr/R) that make them revable... and not forget about the ever precious R/S ratio - rod to stroke. |
doesnt a b18c cost almost 5 grand?? an LS vtec would be much cheaper no??
|
The LS stock has the same torque as a b18c but far less hp...I think an LS vtec would outperform the GSR
|
Ive seen some properly done LS/VTEC and b20/Vtec cost upwards of 8 grand after all parts and machining is done.
MIddlemiss: No scott is just an avid car enthusiats who does this work outta his garage. |
hmm...8 grand...I guess that would include the labour then eh? cuz there would be allot of labour involved...but to do it yourself, maybe looking at?? hmm lets see... B20 900$$, vtec head ballpark 500$$, pistons rods 1000$$, sleeves and posts, 1000$$ << not sure on this one(just guessing) pluse its only necesary is boosting, oil line kit 150$ intake manifold (for the b20, not the LS) 200$$, headders 350$$, intake 350$, GSR Tranny (not sure, maybe 1000$$??) So yah I guess it does add up, but id still rater it than a b18c, cuz of A: torque B: originality :p
then the options of better cams, cam gears, aux pullys, injectors, fuel rails, msd, wires, or any other things like a skunk manifold....thats where the money starts adding up, is in the performance improvements... Anything else im missing thats important/ expensive?? Im saveing up to do this myself (minus the machine work of course), so it will be helpfull to know what kind of dough i need to save... |

If you are looking for an LSVTEC I have a buddy that might be selling his for a very reasonable price.
|
Spending $8G? ls/turbo. You will make alot more power with a used turbo kit.

Sorry Sam you got Jooked!
