lowering with stock shocks ...
 

sup guys. anyone here have aftermarket springs lowered civics, lets say 1.75" front and 1.5" back, with stock shocks? how is the handling compared to stock? how long will the stock shocks last? thanks for the replies.

It all depends on how old the stock shocks are to begin with.

Best rule of thumb is...

The farther you lower your car, the more strain you put upon your suspension and shock setup. The increased strain on these items causes them to wear out faster

Could be anywhere from 6 months to 1 year.. Give or take a few more months on top of that...

In otherwords.. its impossible to tell without knowing the shape of your equipment.

my daily driver is a 99 civic si with 97000kms. do you advise me to lower the car first and then buy shocks in the near future. i will be buying rims soon and would like to have a more aggresive lowered stance. thanks for the reply.

Don't short yourself.. When it comes to suspension it is better to do it all right the first time and spend a few more bucks.

If I was going to lower my car (in the process of lowering my car now) I would buy both shocks AND springs and have it all done at the same time.

I have to agree, it's not worth the time and money to take your suspension apart 2-3 times when you can do it once. It also depends if your doing in a garage or your driveway.

Yeah ideally you wanna do everything at once, it's cheaper on labour and you get a nice setup for your ride. however if you wanna drop but can't afford shocks, you can go with Eibach Pro Kit or Sportlines, and wait a year or 2 before putting new shocks in. I had my Pro Kit's for a year and a half on stock shocks and it was a pretty good ride, when I removed the shocks they were still in good condition as well.

So, by only going with springs (no shocks), you'll wear out your shocks? My buddy has Eibach lowering springs on his car, but has no intentions of changing the shocks.... but he should, correct? :confused:

The stockers will blow sooner or later, depending on how your firend drives and the condition of the roads around there.

Well, he drives his car very hard and the roads aren't too too bad, but they're not the best at times either...

Tell your friend to start saving for shocks. :)

how much do the springs go for? how low did you go? my buds car is lowered 2 inches on stock shocks and his car bounces on every road imperfections. hows your driving style? sorry for all the questions. :)

Pro Kit drops 1.5" and Sportlines drop 1.8"... you can ask Sherman at Speedtech for prices, I bought mine a few years ago so I'm sure they're cheaper now. Oh my driving style? I drive like any other law abiding motorist. :)

i just talked to sherman about the springs and he quoted me $500 for eibach pro-kits and install out the door. should i go for it?

I got the pro kit on my car doesn't lower too much but it is a great ride. I bought mine from my cousin, but 500 for installed springs Is that expensive does anyone now this.Ithink it is.

how much lower (front and back) is it from stock?

yeah 5 bills sounds kinda high.

i was told by a friend that buying performance shocks and adding them with lowering springs requires new pillow mounts?? Does this make sense? thanks for any additional info, all who have posted on this thread have been of much help
