lowering my car
 

hey guys, I have a 2001 civic si, and I am planning to lower my car in the coming summer with a tein basic full coilover. I was thinking of lower the front by 1.5 and the rear by 1.75. the reason there is a difference between the front and rear is cuz the rear is higher up than the front with the stock suspension. Is this a good idea? do u guys have any suggestions on how much I should lower my car by?

all depends on your taste. i think that it looks best when the front and rear are same height.

do u drive with people in the back often?

upto 1.7 is fine cuz u shouldnt have much problem scraping and things like that

that's the look I am goign for, the front and rear are the same height. I dunno how much to lower it by so I will achieve that.....and stock setup has the car's rear a little higher.

just not too fast over some speed bumps - been scraping a bit since I lowered 1.5" :p

tein basic is what i wanted but i got my shocks at a price i coulnt refuse

i heard tein basics were crap compared to the ss. why go with the tein basics? search for it's reviews on h-t. i hear a lot of people saying that there's better coilovers out there for the price. don't buy it just for the name.

Looks like you just want the looks of a lowered vehicle. In that case, set the height to 600mm (for example) for all corners, measured from the ground to top of the fender.

Don't go by # of inches to drop, go by the distance between top of fender to centre of wheel if you have the ability to set the height yourself. My car is set at 588+/- for all corners.

I know the ss is better than the basic....but it also costs more, it allows more adjustments. But I dun think I need all those adjustments, I am juss a daily driver looking for a smoother ride.

look for other brands than tein basics. seems like you're just buying it for the name.

i think hes jsut bying it because it does what he needs it to do.

he doesnt seem to need any performece handling or anything, just a basic drop that he can choose.

i think tein basic is perfect for his application, there are other coilovers, but they are either crap or overkill.

(keep in mind that there isnt much for the 7thgen yet)

then why not buy something cheaper? wait for the omni's to come out with coilovers. honestly i keep telling him to get something other than tein basic because i've heard that the basics were not that great at all for the price. if he doesn't want any adjustment then get springs and shocks, coilovers will give a rougher ride than springs and shocks combo. it's just a drop he's after right?

i think he wants a drop that he can get to be perfect height for him, i agree that springs/shocks are cheaper and better.

but if he really wants coilovers, the tein basic would be the best. the omni coilovers suck compared to basics from what ive read on 7thgencivic.com

I lowered mine 1.75 in the front and 1.25 in the back...but I am a loser...I like the tilt look its really up to you

how much are the tein basics at retail?

1st off don't do it now in winter, wait for spring .
drop it whatever height u want u can always change it later.
i dropped mine 2.5 aand 2.25 in the back

i think tein coilover is one of the best. very smooth and good performance too. i have ss, but if you just want to drop it a little bit, basic should be fine.
another option is what i had before billstein shocks/tein s-tech.
reasonable price and great feeling for daily driver and great handling too.:wink:
