Lowering Car - Coilovers
I was at pacific today at the Auto Pats store I think, i was talking to the guy about lowering my car and i asked him about these coil overs on the wall display that were $150
they basically looked like this, with the blue spring and a inner siler tube and 2 silver rings.
Do or should i just go for this??
my criteria is -
budget($150-$200 range)
Lower for look about 2 or 1.5 inches and easy adjustability but not sacrificing comfort of ride and all. (no 2km/h slanted drive over small speed bumps and every minor defect in the road to send my car banging)
1) how will comfort and ride be? simular to stock ride?
2) how much will installation cost?
3) how will it effect insurance if at all?

Coilovers are generally alot stiffer then lowering springs. Stiff springs on stock shocks equal a rough and bouncy ride. Your shocks probably won't last very long either. For $150 you could easily find a set of used lowering springs that will ride much better and help your stock shocks last a little longer. Save your money and buy a decent set of new or gently used springs and shocks.
2) how much will installation cost?
$100-$150 at one of TCC's Affiliates. Maybe more if any of your bolts are seized and break.
3) how will it effect insurance if at all?
Depends. My insurance company is fine with suspension mods, but they frown on engine modifications.

your ride will be horrible if you're lowered 2" on coilovers and stock shocks. if you lower your car 2" you'll pretty much have to take bumps slow anyway.
if you're looking for close to stock ride and keeping your stock shocks id recomment eibach prokit or tein h-tech. they both drop about 1.2". any lower and your stock shocks will be gone in a year or two on toronto roads.
if you want to go low you'll be sacrificing on your ride quality no matter what setup you use imo.
my 2 cents

But I hear it is even less if you don't have a b-series. I am not sure if that is true, but I was told that if you put it in an ek with a d-series then that engine is lighter enough that the drop is lessened cause those springs are made to have the heavier b-series on them in the front.

Also if i go with coil overs will they wear down my stock springs badly, like if i plan to keep the car for another 5 6 years and if my lowering is goin to be not very significant and budgetted what are the prime options?
and can you guys point me into the direction of where to get it, perhaps a website or something bc i am so newbie about spriongs and all these things that i am almost clueless to what you guys are saying.

considering your car is a 95 civ coupe id probably just bite the bullet and atleast buy some new shocks even stock replacement non adj like tokico blue or kyb gr2.
those will probably be able to handle coilovers or lower springs a lot better and they arnt that pricey
