lowering
hey guys im looking at a gen 5 hatch and if i get this thing im prolly going to do the suspension and the breaks then moter.
i obviously want to lower it but i dont care if its slamed i want better handeling not really looks. the questions are, how low should i go for best handeling. What suspension should i use, if there are any brand names you would sugest that would be great. i also want to know how much a 1.6 sohc of the same gen with tranny, cpu , and all that jaz go's for.

apex springs I have personally found to be ... not pleasant.
Remember that wheel travel is one of the most important things when handling. If you are BOUNCING over bumps, your tires are not gripping. Soft spring rates and stiff shocks are pretty key components for good handling, as are sticky tires. If you can, use Progress coilovers and sway bars. They pulled over 1G lateral force on the skidpad in their 4th gen I think. If that's too much money, I'd have to say, use Koni yellow (Sport) matched to the Eibach Pro Kit. The Pro Kit is progressive, soft at first, stiff over big bumps, and doesn't take a lot away from wheel travel. Then, tune the rest with sway bars.

as were on topic here, I have a friend that has a bubble back and he just did a complete GSR disk conversion. He still has the struts though, it's from a 2000 GSR going in a 92 dx h/b, aren't the struts a bit larger and won't the car be sitting higher than before so using gsr struts on lowering springs would be useless for the springs b/c it will be at around stock height again. Anyway I heard of this info from someone else but he has coils so I just told him to throw the struts in and use the coilovers to adjust them a bit lower than before. Is this true about the struts in a bubble? thx

within a 1/4" height diff... I don't think he'll even be able to tell. Also the GS-R is slightly lower than a regular teg. Lowering springs will lower it... as much as it would with the teg minus the weight difference (200-300 lbs), so if the springs are rated for 2", he might get 1.8".

No, I seen in before, but with GSR on Koni sport on a 5th gen hatch... not bad at all, but I couldn't tell ya if he had the spring perches on the Konis adjusted down to compensate. But it won't be too bad... definitely worth a try!! Don't forget, the gap on stock springs is like a good 3 inch gap... I'm not clear on whether you have lowering springs off the GSR or stock ones?

no on my 2nd previous post I mentioned he has coils and I told him to go for it and he can adjust the perch for the gap he lost. I just thought if he did have springs that it would be useless b/c I heard from someone else is that the car increases in height 3-4" so a 2" lowering spring would be useless b/c it would be at stock height again evern higher. But now that I found out the real loss in height then it wouldn't be a big deal after all b/c you don't lose much space as I thought. But ya it's worth a try, will see how it works out.
oops actually he has coils off of his civic, hopefully they fit on the gsr struts.
