Lowerin Springs....
Yo guys I need ur opinions.... I just put on my lowerin springs 2day but I didnt change my shocks they r still the stock 1's..... The mechanic said the shocks r fine and I shouldent have to change them.... BUT I dont know I think I should NO..... When I drive its not the smoothiest ahaha... and I think the front left tire is slighty caved in but that can be fixed wit an alignment or a camber kit rite....

the answer to that question will vary depending who you ask... i have neuspeed race springs on stock shocks and they are fine....

you take any car perf a rustbucket ... you SLAAAAAAMM it on stock shocks, or even better you REMOVE the shocks alotogether - after all they just weigh more and may stop clowns from piling into the car.

Anth, like I said. Just spend the extra couple bucks and get shocks. Get a camber kit too. I do not know how many god damn times I have to tell you this.
Spend the money NOW when there aren't any problems yet, and you wont run into problems later ! By the sounds of it, keep driving ur car, and ur going to have to get new tires soon ! |
if you rotate your tires often the camber wear isn't very noticeable

you do realize camber wear is on the INSIDE of the tire... and no matter how you rotate your tires, the INSIDE of the tire is ALWAYS the INSIDE of your tire (unless you remove the tire from the wheels and flip it which most high-perf tires you can't do anyways). If this holds true for you however, then check for toe out, which will cause the inside to wear more than the outside. |
well that all depends... see i have zero camber wear or unual tire wear on the rear tires... its just the front... so the camber wear only happens when the wheels are on the front.... i've had race springs on for a bit now and the wear isn't that bad considering..... but obviously a camber kit would solve all my problems

if you have a slight angle of camber wear across a tire wouldn't it be a good thing though? from a racing perspective anyways.... cause it would effectively make the tire contact patch wider...

I dunno, my "clown car" has been doing very well in the solo circuit over the last couple of years... That said, I'm in on the Koni Yellow group buy cuz I want better, I'm just saying, it's totally do-able. Mine has been lowered on H&R race springs for at least 6 years with 11 year old stock shocks.

Don't worry StewPiddass, my Saturn was a clown car before it came into my posession. It's now a performer :D Solo 2 I'm assuming, which is low speed, smooth transition. Try that on a high speed off camber offramp with broken pavement and lemme know what you think.

I have a camber kit, but it's not in yet... it's going in with the Konis this fall... my back wheels are canted in sooo far, anytime I'm in a convoy to an event that's always the first thing the guy who's following me asks. Alignment can't help camber since it's not adjustable with a camber kit. I'm scared to put the camber kit in cuz my wheels tuck and are too close to the fenders as it is. I might have to get smaller/narrower/higher offset wheels.
I wouldn't necessarily call solo2 low speed, I run outta second gear all the time (and that's over 100 with my lx tranny) a few guys were getting into third on the Go-Kart track we ran on last week-end. |

Ya, I don't worry about camber wear at all... :shrugs: No camber kit for me as rears would touch the quarter under full flex.

If i put a camber kit on, my fenders would be all wrinkly and bent by now, camber kits arnt the solution, well unless you have really small wheels and tires i guess..... If you get a proper toe alignment and rotate your tires with every oil change like Rick said, they will last...Rotateing the tires wont eliminate camber ware but it will ware the tires evenly, since "usually" there is more camber ware in the rear... Its all about the proper toe allignment :D
