low profile tires

i was wondering if someone could tell me if this is normal. I have a 16" racing club rims with yokohama tires. the tires are still in good condition. I got these rims with the car when i bought it in private sale.
One of the rims are a little crooked. When i put them on last summer and went on driving on the highway at 120 km, my steering wheel vibrates that the watch im wearing shakes. I went to balance all my tires (twice) but a few days after the wheel still shakes. It only happens when I hit 120 kms. Im not sure if the crooked rim would make this problem.
Also, is it normal when you hit a little crack on the road that your wheel just go haywire (heheh).
All these happens only with my low profile tires. It never happens when i put my factory tires on. No shaking.

your tires might have worn un evenly and have flap stops or your rim is bent and that woudl also make it shake...get yoru rims checked and new tires if they are fucked. low profiel tires will maek your ride rougher seegin hwo they have less cushion and stiffer sidewalls so slow down for those pot holes if your wheel goes crazy...also check your alignment maybe of ball joints.....either way your gonna have to take it to a mechanic

and 2fast2furious movie was gay I disliked it ......

Yeah dude, I was suffering from the same thing this past summer. I never had the tires balanced, how ever, after I put the stock 13" Goodyear Integrity wheels back-on, guess what? Problem is GONE!!

I do believe too, that its the skinny tire's fault. You get a LOT more road feel (vibrations?) And, they don't have enough cusionning... I had 205/40/HR 16 and STOCK shocks!!! You know the rest!!

i had that problem when the dash shook. it happend at 120 - 130. i replaced my suspension (it was shot) and it solved it a bit then got allignmenat done and compleatly gone.

check allignmenat, check suspension, put on diff wheels and see if u have the same symptoms. if not then its the rims. basic troubleshooting.

bent rim can never be properly balanced.. even if u balance it, the car will still shake like crazy. Cheapest work around is swap it with the back rim so it doesn't shake your steering wheel..

Worn out tie rods can also affect it a little, but if thta's the root cause then consider yourself lucky that the joint hadn't snapped.. sometimes the shaking in the wheel is the play in the tie rod ball joint.. Basically, wheel connects to tie rod, tie rod to steering rack, which you control.. REPLACE worn tie rods please.. it's like $30 a rod and easy to do yourself..

Another thing could be warped tires, sometimes tires get bubbles and will seem balanced but won't drive right.

Finally tires can also have tread seperation, where the grooves in between the tread are actually ripping appart... this is very dangerous cuz your tire can just explode.. Generally these tires CAN NOT be balance and any real balancing shop will tell you the tread is messed and tire should be replaced..

Wider/Lower profile tires and bigger rims tend to follow the road a lot more than regular tires.. You'll always notice that the car is pulling all sorta ways.. its' common, probably just because of the wear in the road.

thanks guys for the advice. Actually I did put the bent rim in theback but it still do it. I will check to see if the tie rod os wprn out and replace them if they are.
Also I have another minor humming noise in the back. It does this when i hit 60-70 kms and it stays on until i slow don to a stop.

Sounds like it might have momething to do withthe tire tread. When you switch back to your stock rims and tires, let us know if its still there. If it's gone, chances are it was the tread of the tire. Not much you can do about it.

Also Gatsby, I notced that your car is lowered (quite a bit). That also has alot to do with the way the car handles. You also don't have the suspension travel like you used to with the stock suspension. Also tire preasure has alot to do with "comfort" as well. The higher the preasure in the tires, the rougher the road will feel.

Guys, you have to remeber that, just because the tire says.... ie "44 PSI max", DOESN'T mean you pump them up to that.

Look at your owners manual (or a sticker somewhere on your car) that tells you what the RECOMENDED tire preasure is. When I used to have 16" rims on my old HB with 205/40/16 Toyo Proxy tires, I used to run them at around 34-35 for the rear, and around 33-34 for the front. I would occationally get a "pull" from the steering wheel when I was in a rut on the road, but other than that, the car road pretty good...even over train tracks. I also was a bit higher (suspension) than Gatsby's car in his sig.

look at the tire and see if it has some tread that is higher than other blocks of tread.... the belt may have shifted in the tire.

I also thought will get that "feather" effect from improper wheel alinement as well?
